This is the heartwarming success story of a hometown girl, a small business, and one truly amazing community. Twenty years ago, Jamie Garris (now Childress) lived in Warrenton, graduated from Liberty High School and began her undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of Virginia. With a love for the field of dentistry since childhood, Jamie reached out to every practicing dentist in Fauquier County, in search of any experience that could help in the pursuit of her goal. Of all the dentists she had contacted, only one was able to offer Jamie a position in his office. Dr. Vincent J. Murray, a small business owner in Warrenton, had not forgotten how someone had once done this very same thing for him. He wanted to pay it forward and share his passion for dentistry. Little did he know, this one act of kindness laid the groundwork for something so much bigger.
During every break from college, Jamie returned home to Warrenton and spent her time working in Dr. Murray’s office as a dental assistant. She and he often discussed the day she would return to the office to work in a different capacity, as a dentist! Four years at UVA passed quickly and Jamie moved to Richmond to attend the VCU School of Dentistry. Maintaining the relationship with Dr. Murray, Jamie continued to work in his office during the summers and holiday breaks from school. The experience she gained there regarding patient interactions, dental procedures and business practice was priceless, helping to push her to the top of her dental school class. During Jamie’s second year of dental school, she was married to her high school sweetheart, Billy Childress, another Fauquier County native. Billy accepted a teaching position at Liberty High School and upon Jamie’s graduation, the couple made a home in Warrenton.
In 2006, the dream became a reality when Dr. Murray hired Dr. Childress as an associate in his practice. The last ten years as an associate allowed Dr. Childress to balance her time as a wife, a mother and a dentist. Drs. Murray and Childress have worked wonderfully together, encouraged and supported one another, experienced tremendous practice growth and shared a common goal.
As we wrap up 2016, Dr. Childress celebrated her 10-year anniversary as a dentist with Warrenton Dentistry. In honor of this special occasion, Drs. Murray and Childress have announced that, as of January 1, 2017, they will transition from their current arrangement to a true partnership. Dr. Childress is now one of two proud owners of the practice where she began working 20 years ago! Drs. Murray and Childress are also excited to announce that they have purchased the building on Rock Pointe Lane in which they currently practice. They plan to expand the physical space of the practice as they continue to grow.
This partnership has been forged together over two decades with integrity, loyalty, respect, honesty, hard work and friendship. The story all began with a local girl, a small business owner and an opportunity. Bound by a love for this community and their patients, Dr. Vincent Murray and Dr. Jamie Childress have built something incredibly special, the Warrenton Dentistry family.
