Webinar #3: Alzheimer’s Research Updates

The final webinar in this year’s series will provide updates on existing Alzheimer’s and related dementias research studies, as well as information on new directions, including:

  • Research participation insights, such as new directions in translational Alzheimer’s research, reaching African American audiences with participation messages, gender differences, and potential hormone therapies
  • Metabolic aspects of Alzheimer’s, including roles of insulin and exercise
  • Research findings on non-pharmacologic approaches to dementia care, such as improving caregiver quality of life
  • Recruiting Older Adults into Research (ROAR), a collaboration among ACL, CDC, NIA to inform older adults of research participation opportunities

OBJECTIVESFOR SERIES

  1. Identify goals and activities outlined in the annually-updated National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease
  2. Identify progress made in the previous year regarding activities of the National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease;
  3. Locate resources for more information about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias;
  4. Describe current findings and directions in research, such as advances in technology, clinical and non-pharmaceutical research; enrollment of participants into studies; and newly-funded trials beginning recruitment;
  5. Identify sources of information about research trials and how professionals in the aging, public health and research networks can apply this knowledge to inform partners and consumers about research and participation opportunities in their communities;
  6. Identify and describe national sources of information and supportive services, such as alzheimers.gov, CDC, ADEAR, Eldercare Locator, and National Alzheimer’s Contact Center; and to apply these resources to educate and inform community members, people with dementia and their family caregivers;
  7. Describe community initiatives and public-private partnerships to develop and implement Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias plans, dementia-capability efforts, and dementia-friendly communities; and to access resources for starting initiatives in their states and communities.
