Fuels Reduction Project Manager Job Description

10hrs/week year round (flexible depending upon workload and funding), full time seasonally if applicant also serves as a Fuels Reduction Crew Boss

Reports to: SRRC Restoration Director

Pay Rate: $16-20/hr depending on experience

Location: Sawyers Bar, California(applicant should be willing to reside within commuting distance – Salmon River, Scott Valley, Mid Klamath)

General Duties:

  • Interface with WatershedCenter. Attend staff meetings, be aware of general SRRC requirements, policies, and reporting and administrative details.
  • Coordinate with project partners, resource managers and regulators.
  • Assist in organizing community education activities, workshops, workdays, field-trips and training for project.
  • Be familiar with your project’s grant agreements, and take responsibility for completing your grant tasks.
  • Assist in grant development for project funding.
  • Meet grant reporting required in each grant agreement.

Specific Project Duties

  • Manage implementation of fuels reduction and prescribed fire activities
  • Conduct all field layout, photo monitoring and GPS mapping of fuels reduction and prescribed fire activities
  • Contact and coordinate with landowners to develop fuels reduction and prescribed fire activities.
  • Oversee and maintain staffing for fuels reduction crews.
  • See that necessaryfuels reduction equipment and supplies arepurchased and maintained
  • Work with SRFire Safe Council on project prioritization and planning
  • Work with SRFire Safe Council on Fire Liaison Team

Optional Additional Duties

  • Fuels Reduction Crew Boss – running an SRRC fuels crew seasonally (November-May)

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. 4 years of relevant experience and knowledge of fuels reduction and prescribed fire
  2. Technologically literate, with strong computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe and other commonly used software.
  3. Good organizational skills and record keeping.
  4. Good people skills and personnel management, along with good oral and written communication skills.
  5. Self-starter who can work independently.
  6. Ability to give and follow directions.
