A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE MEMBERS OF GREENVILLE COUNTY’S 2003 GREER HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH TRAVIS PERRY FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN FOR THE CLASS AAA STATE FOOTBALL CROWN.
Whereas, being a member of a sports team gives young people the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing great athletic talents; and
Whereas, to become a champion in football, all members of the team and the coaching staff must display outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and
Whereas, the Greer High School Yellow Jackets of Greenville County capped their thrilling 2003 football season by taking the Class AAA State title in a 3317 victory over West Florence High School at WilliamsBrice Stadium in Columbia; and
Whereas, the overwhelming victory was a real team effort, with junior running back Arthur Sitton rushing for 113 yards and a touchdown and senior Will Smith kicking four field goals to give the Yellow Jackets a commanding lead; and
Whereas, the team followed up on their opening lead with a sixtysix yard touchdown by Arthur Sitton and a twentyyard field goal by Will Smith, giving the Greer High School Yellow Jackets a lead that it would never relinquish; and
Whereas, Head Coach Travis Perry charged up his defense with his own enthusiasm and the defensive team responded by holding the West Florence Knights to only seventeen points and dominating the rest of the game; and
Whereas, this outstanding finish for the 2003 Greer Football Team that accumulated thirteen wins and a state championship title has brought pride to not only Greer High School, its administration, staff, alumni students, and loyal fans, but also the citizens of their community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the members of Greenville County’s 2003 Greer High School Football Team and Head Coach Travis Perry for their outstanding state championship for the Class AAA State Football Crown.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the 2003 Greer High School Football Team and Head Coach Travis Perry.
