Preamble
Buddhism the fourth largest religion in the World today, brought revolutionary transformation in the life and culture of people of India, South-East Asia and China. Buddha who lived and taught during the sixth century B. C., Himself never tried to establish a religion bearing his name. But, through the life he lived, He was able to influence a large number of people from all walks of life: kings and commoners, rich and the poor, saints and criminals, who congregated into groups around Him, what had come to be known as Sangha, to realize, that suffering exists, that suffering arises from attachment to desires, that suffering ceases when attachment to desire ceases and that freedom from suffering is possible by practicing an eightfold path: right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, right contemplation. These precepts, enlarged and propagated by His followers over the millennia, have entered into the thought process of scholars in every branch of knowledge, such as philosophy, religion, art and architecture, ethics, education and so on.
Buddha’s life and teachings present a unifying social force that is relevant even after 2500 years. The seminar proposes to debate the contribution of Buddha’s teachings in historical and contemporary perspective. The proposed themes are:
1. Buddha and His times
2. Buddhist Philosophy
3. Buddhist art and architecture
4. Social and ethical values in Buddhism
5. Buddhist Acharyas and Personalities, past and present
6. Buddhism in Contemporary India
Participants:
Researchers, Academicians, Industrialists, Business houses, Representatives of Monasteries, NGOs, Governmental bodies, Universities, and other Educational Institutions;
Call for Papers
Papers are invited on the themes for review. Authors of accepted papers may send their final paper softcopy not exceeding 10 pages on A4 size sheets with 1.5 line spacing, including tables, annexures and figures. Accepted Papers will be printed in the Seminar Volume which will be released by the Chief Guest in the Inaugural Session of the Seminar.

MGNIRSA
Mahatma Gandhi National Institute of Research and Social Action (MGNIRSA) was established by Dr. D. Swaminadhan Research Foundation (DSRF) in 1995 to fulfill the objectives. The proposal for establishing MGNIRSA at Hyderabad has been accepted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh and land is being provided for developing its campus. MGNIRSA has been recognised by the University of Mysore as a Research Centre to offer Ph.D programmes in certain areas in Sciences, Engineering & Technology and Social Sciences. Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) and also entered into a MOU for offering Ph.D and other PG Degree programmes. The Institute is planned to become a Deemed to be University in course of time. MGNIRSA is recognized by UGC & included under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act. MGNIRSA has a number of Schools and Centres. Centre for Buddhist Studies is one such Centre.
Centre for Buddhist Studies
Centre for Buddhist Studies was started during 2008 under the International School of Research for Peace, Freedom and International Relations (ISRPFIR). It is a significant stride to promote advanced studies and research in Buddhism with all its branches.
