4-H Youth Development
· Submitted Year 2 renewal grant to the National Institute of Food and Agriculture for Community Central, our Children Youth and Families at Risk (CYFAR) project with public housing. $145,000.00
· Appointed as Chair of the Kennebec County 4-H Professional search committee. We are currently accepting applications. Initial screening of applicants is this week.
· Working with Lewiston School Department to coordinate a summer opportunity fair with Longley and Montello Elementary Schools on June 1.
· Meeting with Lewiston School Department about Summer Learning loss and grade level reading campaign. I have joined one of their subcommittees on this topic.
· Continued working with Williams-Cone School in Topsham to help plan their STEM summer camp.
· Offered a workshop at the Annual SPACE day on May 1, which was held at Mt. Ararat Middle School. Provided programming to over 200 students.
· Providing a Math afterschool program for students in grades k-2 at Williams-Cone School for six weeks.
· Conducted interviews with Laura Personette to hire 8 teen leaders to help plan and implement programming with our Community Central program in Lewiston.
· 4-H @ UMaine Connecting kids to Campus is this weekend. 41 youth from Androscoggin/Sagadahoc counties are attending. A total of 147 youth from all over the state, this is a huge increase from previous years.
· Working closely with the Topsham Fair to secure a 4-H space and have 4-H events throughout the week of the fair related to 4-H Science and the Maine Food systems.
· The Teen leaders of Androscoggin/Sagadahoc counties offered a fun day during school vacation week. Over 20 youth participated in programming offered by teens at the MTM center in Lisbon Falls.
· 4-H Leaders had a very successful compost sale and events at Tractor Supply.
· 4-H has partnered with the Lewiston Public Library- the library is using our incubator and is hatching chickens!
· Attended the Maine Afterschool network quarterly meeting.
· Presented “Programming where the kids are-exploring the benefits of partnering with public housing.” At the National Extension Conference on Volunteerism in Portland, ME May 4-6.
