A Diary Entry
Tuesday, 24th December,2002 Snowy
Today was the happiest day in my life. I cannot believe what I see and what I am doing now. I am sitting beside a window to write my diary and watching the snow. It is beautiful. Also, I have a lovely baby boy in my arms now.
24 hours ago, I just got on a plane to New York to visit my elder sister alone. Yes, a 16-year-old girl travelled to New York alone. It is exciting! Although it was not the first time I had gone overseas, I was still very excited and a little bit tense.
When the plane was flying over the Pacific Ocean, the sky became darker and darker. Everybody around me was sleeping, but I couldn’t. I was too excited to sleep! I was thinking about my elder sister, Ruth, my brother-in-law, Sam, and their first-born baby boy. I was thinking about what I should say when I met them. Sam is an American, so should I speak in English or in Cantonese? What does the baby boy look like? All these questions filled my mind. I love my sister very much. We haven’t met each other for 2 years. The last time I met her was in her wedding in Manchester. Sam was born and grew up in Manchester. His parents still live there. Yet, because of his job, he needs to live in New York.
When I arrived, I saw Ruth. At that moment, I was extremely happy and I almost cried. I gave many kisses to her because I really missed her. I also gave a soft kiss to their first-born baby boy. He is called Hugo because Victor Hugo is Ruth’s favourite novelist. He has brown hair and green eyes, the same as his father. I have a nephew with green eyes. So cool! I have never thought of it.
The Christmas of this year will be very special. I will have a white Christmas with Ruth’s family.
I wish Dad and Mum could have this wonderful holiday with us. But they need to work. I hope Ruth, Sam and my lovely Hugo can visit Hong Kong next Christmas.

Today, something happened and I felt very excited and happy all the day. It began in the morning.
When I woke up, I received a phone call from one of my best friends’ mother. She told me that Alan had taken a flight to Hong Kong and he would arrive at noon. I was extremely excited. Alan had left me after graduating from primary school. He is studying in the U.S.A. Although he studies abroad, we always contact each other. Time flies, it has been five years.
Having received the news, I went to the airport waiting for him. On the trip to the airport, the sun was shining. Yes, I was very happy and excited. At the airport, I hung around because it was too early. I felt more and more happy. I walked around and planned the activities with Alan.
At noon, the flight arrived. Alan came out. It’s wonderful! However, he has changed a lot and has a mature look.
“Alan, are you fine?” I said, “You have come back!” He will spend a week on Hong Kong. He is on holiday. We smiled at first. Both of us used to be talkative, but we were quiet for a while. We had lots to talk about but we couldn’t open our mouths. We cried. At that time, we felt happiness was an invaluable blessing.
I helped him to take the luggage, talked about our life and shared our happiness. I brought him to my home, living with us for a week. He is happy with that because he can talk until midnight.
After that, we visited our primary school in which we were brought up. Our school is old, but lovely. We had lots of sweet memories there. There is no limit for happiness, I think.
Today, I had a delightful day. Anyway, I have a simple desire. I really hope we can be friends forever!
