A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OF MR. WILLIAM KENT TODD, A DISTINGUISHED BUSINESS AND CIVIC LEADER IN WALHALLA, UPON HIS DEATH.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. William Kent Todd of Walhalla on December 8, 2008; and

Whereas, a native of Walhalla, Mr. Todd was the son of the late James W. and Edith McMahan Todd and was predeceased in death by his wife, Joan Murphree Todd; and

Whereas, he was the owner and operator of the Todd Paint and Decorating Company and long time owner of the former Pelfrey Lumber Company and Walhalla Builders; and

Whereas, he was a member of Walhalla Presbyterian Church where he had served as a deacon and the president of the Men of the Presbytery; and

Whereas, Mr. Todd was a past president of the Walhalla Chamber of Commerce, treasurer of the Greater Walhalla German-American Club, and was the leader of the “chain gang” for the Walhalla High School Razorbacks football team for over thirty years; and

Whereas, Kent Todd served for many years as a member of the Walhalla Oktoberfest Committee and was instrumental in making the Walhalla Oktoberfest one of the most successful festivals in South Carolina; and

Whereas, his passing leaves a void in the lives of his community, family, and friends that will not be easily filled; and

Whereas, with the death of this fine man at the age of sixty-five, the people of Walhalla and Oconee County have lost a respected community and church leader and a good friend. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their deepest sympathy to the family and many friends of Mr. William Kent Todd, a distinguished business and civic leader in Walhalla, upon his death.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Mr. Todd.
