More than one million people a year come to us for advice and support via our website, help lines, and national network of services. We help people to find and keep a home in a place where they can thrive, and we tackle the root causes of bad housing by campaigning for new laws, policies and practice.

You will be supporting our small and friendly facilities team who will be working on an exciting project in collaboration with our corporate partner CBRE, who will be evaluating and assessing the usage of space in our London HQ. As Shelter’s Head Office continues to grow and become an even more flourishing hub of activity to support our clients in housing crisis, this piece of work will go a long way to helping Shelter free up some much needed space to house more needed employees, to work in a more contemporary environment and to plan for the future.

If you are interested in learning more about what it’s like to work in a facilities team or just have an interest in this area, this might be the role for you. It’s a small role which will have a huge impact. This will involve a specific amount of rounds a day where you will be walking around the office at a set times between 9.00am and 5.00pm and accurately recording the hubs of activity. You will be fully trained and supported to carry out this role.

Skills and Abilities Required

  • Interest in the work of Shelter and in supporting people
  • Able to use a tablet
  • Ability to organise your own work, manage your time and work on your own initiative
  • Observant
  • The ability to work as part of a team and value others
  • Willingness to follow Shelter’s policies, including volunteering, health and safety, equality and diversity and confidentiality

Induction, Learning Development

To enable you take part in this opportunity Shelter will

  • Provide a volunteer pack including a Handbook and all Policies and Procedures
  • Provide e-learning: Equality & Diversity, Health and Safety, Data Protection, CICM
  • Reimburse “out of pocket” expenses in line with Shelter’s volunteer expenses policy
