2017 MISA Awards – Nomination Criteria
Each year, awards are presented at the MISA Ontario Annual Conference to individual information technology leaders, and to municipal and associate member organizations. An awards panel selects the recipients on the basis of submitted nomination forms.
The deadline for submissions is April 11, 2017. The MISA awards will be presented on June 5, 2017 during the annual banquet at the MISA Annual Conference and Trade Show in Windsor, ON.
The top 5 Municipal projects chosen by the Committee will have an opportunity to present their award-winning project at a plenary session at the Annual Conference on Monday, June 5. Each project will have 10 minutes on the conference agenda. Delegates will then be asked to vote for their favourite project. In addition to receiving an Excellence in Municipal Systems Award, the project with the most votes will receive the People’s Choice Award at the Conference Awards Banquet on Monday, June 5.
To aid in the evaluation process please use this document as your submission template. Submissions will be accepted in a Word.doc/docx format with supporting information supplied separately in a PowerPoint or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.
Members are invited to submit their nominations by email using ‘MISA 2017 Awards’ in the subject line to the Executive Director at for the following award categories:
EXCELLENCE IN MUNICIPAL SYSTEMS is for both a municipality and one or more individuals within the municipality who have successfully undertaken a significant initiative or set a new standard that other municipalities may follow. Additional criteria for an award in this category include:
• Furtherance of a municipality’s strategic objectives using information technology;
• Demonstrated improvement in service delivery to clients, citizens or businesses;
• High level of collaboration between IT and other City departments as shown for example in a joint submission between IT and client business unit.
PARTNER OF THE YEAR was introduced in 1996 to be presented to the associate member felt to have made the most significant contribution to municipal information technology and MISA during the past year. In addition to the criteria above, additional factors used to determine an award winner are:
• Extent to which the associate member has developed a mutually beneficial partnership with the municipal sector or a critical mass of municipalities;
• Associate member’s application of products in new, innovative ways that improve service delivery, extend the pervasiveness of technology usage in the municipal sector, or contribute to leaner, more efficient organizations;
• Effective facilitation of alliances with other municipalities, levels of government & IT vendors to produce effective and timely business solutions.
REGENA LERKE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE is an award for individual service to MISA that exemplifies Regena’s spirit of working “beyond the call” with humour and humanity and making a difference to the organization and its members.
JOHN CUSHING AWARD OF MERIT is an award for long and exemplary service to MISA and is to recognize outstanding and dedicated service to the Municipal Information Systems Association over the years.
ROY WISEMAN AWARD is presented annually to an employee of a MISA Ontario member municipality who is recognized as a role model and mentor. The recipient will:
· Be regarded as a mentor and role model by his/her peers in the MISA community;
· Demonstrate a "can-do” attitude and outlook;
· Demonstrate integrity and respect with his/her peers;
· Foster inter-jurisdictional relationships;
· Exude motivation and dedication to MISA Ontario objectives and initiatives;
· Have a good working relationship with his/her peers.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP is awarded to retiring MISA member representatives who have been active in the association including participation on committees and the Board of Directors for a number of years. Life members continue to receive Municipal Interface and are entitled to attend the conference and workshops at no charge.
SPECIAL RECOGNITION is awarded to individuals or groups who have made a specific and outstanding contribution to MISA or the municipal systems community.
