Explanatory Report

The project task is to design a detached house using HEBEL aerated concrete wall panels (modular grid 30 cm) – partial cellar layout with a designated spatial division programme and floor space dimensions.

Any chosen basis for planning should focus exclusively on relatively small, very slim properties upon which houses with garden areas can be built in a concentrated format.

The entrance area, which also serves as a play area for children is canopied with a pergola. The so-called “car-port” also provides a rain-free access point directly to the front door or through to the mud room. This serves as an entryway system allowing for dirt collection or as a multi-purpose room for frequently used objects whose storage in the cellar would not be appropriate (e.g. prams, bicycles, large children’s toys for games and activities outdoors). By passing through this room ones reaches the cloak room with a WC/shower room and the entrance hall area with a single-flight, transparent wooden staircase reaching into the first floor.

The kitchen is fitted with a snack corner and is connected with a utility room, with a view through to the inner patio area that can also be used as a play area. This should also allow for children to be kept an eye on while cooking is being done.

The family room, which is also linked to the outdoor playing area, is a through-access

room and simultaneously a central point in the dwelling. It is a dining area for the family and

a place to play for the children, and also has a fireplace for times of relation. Large windows looking out to the outdoor playing area and into the garden terrace area provide the ideal level of interaction from outside in, just as in summer there is a sense of “living in the great outdoors”.

The sitting room (“Gute Stube”), located towards the back, serves as an area of relaxation and also has access points to both outdoor areas.

On the first floor the sleeping area is located and deliberately separated from the living area downstairs. The following is planned: amaster bedroom and two children’s bedrooms that can, depending on individual requirements, be transformed into one large children’s bedroom. Furthermore, individual bathrooms for children and parents respectively can be found. The children’s bedrooms are located on the entrance side of the house in order that they remain protected from disturbing noises coming from parties and festivals being held.

In conclusion, it can be said that, in spite of the small property size and the relatively small living surface area, a generous floor plan has been created and, with the possibility of utilizing external rooms enables the achievement of a high quality of living.
