2017-18

Council of Engineers Ireland consists of: -

  • 4 Officers (President, two Vice Presidents and immediate Past President)
  • 15 Elected Members
  • 26 Ex Officio Members
  • Up to 6 Co-opted Members

The 12 Elected Members include: -

  • 6 Chartered Members
  • 3 Associate Engineers / Engineering Technicians
  • 3 Members (eligible but not necessarily Chartered)

Elected Members of Council may serve for 3 consecutive years without standing for re-election but may not serve on Council for more than 6 consecutive years, unless an Officer of Engineers Ireland.

Election Procedure:

Nomination for President shall be by Council from among the Vice Presidents. Any member to be eligible for President shall have served at least 2 years on the Council or Executive Board.

Nominations for Vice President shall be by Council or by 20 Corporate members.

Nomination for membership of Councilshall be by 10 Corporate Members or by Council.

Nomination papers must show the written consent of the member nominated, who must not be in arrears of subscription. The nomination must be made on a form, which may be obtained from the Secretary of Engineers Ireland. Completed Nomination Papers must be returned to: -

3.6 Nominations

3.6.1Any member to be eligible for nomination to the office of President shall have served at least 2 years on the Council or Executive Board and shall be a Chartered Engineer.

3.6.2Nomination for President shall be by Council from among the Vice Presidents.

3.6.3Nominations for Vice President shall be by Council or by 20 Corporate members.

3.6.4Nomination of candidates for election to Councilshall be by 10 Corporate Members.

3.6.5Only Corporate Members of Engineers Ireland shall be eligible to nominate or be nominated for any office or to serve otherwise on Council.

3.6.6Each nomination shall be made on the prescribed form which must carry the consent of the member nominated.

3.6.7Each candidate shall be invited to submit with his/her nomination such information as Council may consider desirable for electoral purposes.

3.6.8Each nomination shall be received by the Director General on or before a date specified by Council.
