SANDHURST 15 - EXTERNAL TEAM RECONNAISSANCE 4 – 6 FEB 2015
- Situation. SANDHURST 15 is to be run fairly in order to give all participants equal opportunity to perform to a high standard. In order to do this exposure must be given to external teams in order to prevent bias being afforded to United States Corps of Cadets (USCC) teams who have access to United States Military Academy (USMA) training area in their preparation for the competition. The External Team Reconnaissance is open to all external teams and will take place at the USMA.
- Mission. From 4 – 6 Feb 15 DMI will host the External Team Reconnaissance at the USMA to:
- Afford the external teams the opportunity to review and learn the skills that are US Army specific.
- Submit demands for US Army specific equipment.
- Introduce them to the Tac Officer LNOs who will be responsible for hosting them during the competition.
- Familiarize the team managers with West Point.
In order to allow for SANDHURST 15 to be run fairly and concurrent preparation to be undertaken by external teams.
- Execution.
- Intent
(1)Purpose. To ensure all external teams are familiar with Sandhurst 2015, the USMA and that the subsequent competition is conducted fairly.
(2)key tasks:
(a)Afford the external teammanagers the opportunity to review and learn the skills that are US Army and USMA specific.
(b)Team managers submit demands for US Army specific equipment.
(c)Introduce team managers to the Tac Officer LNOs who will be responsible for hosting them during the competition.
(d)Familiarize the team managers with West Point.
(3)Endstate. All external teams understand the requirements for participation in Sandhurst 2015, have linked up with their Battalion Tactical Department hosts, have identified and requested resources from USMA, have received train the trainer training on specific skills required and understand the terrain (both physical and personnel) to be utilized during external teams’ deployment to USMA.
- Main Events List. See enclosure 1.
- Composition.
(1)Instructors. Resourced from within USMA.
(2)Participants. Each external team is invited to send 1 x Officer (Captain – Lieutenant Colonel) and 1 x NCO to the period. External teams are to confirm their attendance to the Officer in Command by NLT 27 JAN 2015.
(3)TAC Officer LNOs. The Battalion Tactical Officer (BTO) is requested to release Tac Officers assigned to external teams as per USCC SANDHURST 15 OPORD in order to conduct:
(a)Meeting and lunch at West Point Club (1200-1315 4 FEB 15).
(b)Question session (1100-1200 6 FEB 15).
- SERVICE SUPPORT
- Arrival/ Departure.
(1)External teams should aim to be seated at Cullum Hall in the USMA by 041100LFEB15. Access to West Point and parking can take up to 45 mins from arrival at the gate to the base. Access can be achieved with a passport, photo driver’s licence or military ID.
(2)International Teams should have international driver’s licenses in order to bring vehicles onto the USMA.
(3)Teams will be released from WestPoint NLT 061230FEB15.
- Accommodation. It is the external teams own responsibility to arrange for accommodation for the duration of the period. External teams will be liable for the cost of their own accommodation. Suggestions as below:
(1)5 Star Inn – Military Lodging WestPoint (recommended, closest and cheapest).
(2)Holiday Inn Express WestPoint.
(3)Thayer Hotel.
- Feeding. Most hotels in the area serve breakfast as part of the room rate. Lunch will be either in the West Point Club or in Grant Hall at the discretion of participants. Evening meal will be at the discretion of the teams. Teams should be prepared to pay for the cost of their meals during the recon.
- Dress / uniform. The dress throughout will be individual version of combat uniform. The weather at West Point over this time will be inclement and cold (possibly snow) therefore pack accordingly. Casual clothing will be worn for the meal at the South Gate Tavern and for transits.
