Tajweed Level 2 – Practice questions 2 (tafkheem and tarqeeq)
Question One:
What is wrong with the following statements?
(1) The letters of the alphabet are divided into three types on the basis of tafkheem and tarqeeq.
(a) Letters which are always pronounced with tafkheem such as ر ل ظ
(b) Letters which are always pronounced with tarqeeq because they have the quality of Isti'alaa such as ك س ص ن
(c) Letters which are pronounced either with tafkheem or tarqeeq according to the accompanying letters such as ر ا ل
(2) Tafkheem means to fatten the letter, and fill your mouth with air. There are 8 letters which are always pronounced with tafkheem.
(3) The letters ( خص ضغط قظ ) are the letters of tarqeeq. With the ط being the pronounced with the most degree of tafkheem.
(4) The lamm in the named of Allah in the following example is pronounced with tarqeeq: ﴿ وللهِ مت في السَّمَوات وما في الأَرضِ ﴾
(5) The alif in a word is pronounced with tafkheem or tarqeeq depending on the letter before and after it. If The letter before or after it is one of the tafkheem letters then it follows in the level of tafkeem. Otherwise it is pronounced with tarqeeq.

For the following examples, write:
(a) which letter is being pronounced with tafkheem.
(b) Why is it pronounced with tafkheem.
(c) Which level of tafkheem is it.

(2) ﴿ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ﴾
(3) ﴿ صَلَوَٲتِہِمۡ ﴾
(4) ﴿ فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ ﴾
(5) ﴿ عِظَامَهُ ﴾
(6) ﴿ وُجُوهٌ۬ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ۬ نَّاضِرَةٌ ﴾
(7) ﴿ تَظُنُّ أَن يُفۡعَلَ بِہَا فَاقِرَةٌ۬ ﴾
(8) ﴿ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَٮِٕذٍ ٱلۡمَسَاقُ ﴾
(9) ﴿ بِسۡمِ ٱللهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ﴾
(10) ﴿ لَّوۡ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ أَن يَتَّخِذَ وَلَدً۬ا لَّٱصۡطَفَىٰ مِمَّا يَخۡلُقُ مَا يَشَآءُ﴾
(11) ﴿ فَقَالَ لَهُمۡ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقۡيَـٰهَا ﴾
