CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Parent/Child | Ages 6 to 36-months-old | 30-minute class
SHRIMP, KIPPER, INIA & PERCH (Parent/Child)
Class is taught with parent or guardian in water. Promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness. Skills and habits are taught and learned through song and repetition.
Preschool | Ages 3 to 5-years-old | 30-minute class
PIKE
For the child who has not had any lessons and/or cannot swim five feet without assistance. Class focuses on becoming comfortable with the face in the water, basic arm and leg movements, and flotation.
EEL
For the child who can swim at least five feet and float without assistance. Class focuses on building confidence, correct breathing while swimming, and swimming on the back and side.
RAY &STARFISH
For the child who can swim at least 15 feet unassisted on the front and back. Class focuses on improving stroke technique, endurance, and personal safety.
Youth | Ages 6 to 12-years-old | 45-minute class
POLLIWOG
For the child has not had any lessons and/or cannot swim without assistance. Class focuses on becoming comfortable in the water, basic propulsion, and flotation.
GUPPY
For the child who can swim 40 feet (half a length) without assistance, and float on their back with comfort and ease. Class focuses on stroke technique, endurance, and safety skills.
MINNOW &FISH
For the child who can swim 75 feet (one length) of freestyle and backstroke. Class focuses on proper stroke and breathing technique, and building endurance. Diving and other water specific skills are also covered.
TEEN & ADULT | Ages 13-years and older | 45-minute class
A class to help the beginner learn the basics of swimming and personal safety. Also for swimmers who want to improve their strokes and endurance.
SAFE START
Safe Start is a survival swim program for children ages 6 months to 6 years.

Safe Start is a collaborative effort of Dr. Phillips Charities, Infant Swimming Resource and the YMCA of Central Florida. Because of the generosity of our partners and donors, scholarships are available for families who would like to participate in Safe Start but do not have the means to do so.
