Position Summary

The full-time positions are in either Exploration & Production (E&P), or in our Research organization (Geosciences & Reservoir Engineering, G&RE).

E&P Geologist & Geophysicist Locations: Positions are primarily in Houston, TX, with the possibility of being placed in Anchorage, AK, Midland, TX or Farmington, NM or other locations.

Research Geologist & Geophysicist Locations:Positions are primarily in Houston, TX, with the possibility of being placed in Bartlesville, OK.

Responsibilities

Typical duties of an E&P Geoscientist may include:

  • Interpreting geoscience and related data, such as well logs, seismic data, cores, and geochemical data, to help explore for or develop hydrocarbons for production.
  • Applying geoscience interpretations to predict the chance of success and potential size of projects ranging from frontier exploration to field development in a variety of global locations.
  • Reservoir mapping or modeling
  • Guiding programs such as drilling, formation evaluation, seismic data acquisition and processing.
  • Partnering with other disciplines within the company to provide geoscience input impacting business decisions.
  • Representing the company while working with partners and government representatives.

Typical duties of a Research Geoscientist may include:

  • Working with a mentor and a group of other professionals to develop and enhance new technologies related to hydrocarbon exploration and production.
  • Predicting rock and fluid properties from interpreting and synthesizing seismic data, well data, geologic history, analogs, geochemical and pressure data, etc.
  • Guiding programs such as seismic acquisition and processing.
  • Representing the company while working with partners and government representatives.
  • Projects related to:
  • Seismic Reservoir Characterization
  • High Definition Seismic Imaging
  • Structural Analysis and Geomechanics
  • Stratigraphic Systems
  • Basin Evolution and Modeling
  • Geochemistry
  • Reservoir Modeling

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a geoscience or closely related technical field
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited geology or geophysics MS or PhD program, or a closely related technical field.
  • Must obtain a graduate degree prior to commencing this position, or provide university documentation that all requirements have been met

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cumulative and major undergraduate GPA greater than 3.4 on a 4.0 scale
  • Graduate school GPA's greater than 3.4 on a 4.0 scale
  • Direct experience in relevant technical work for the petroleum industry (including previous internships or full time experience)
  • Either geophysical focus with strong geological skills, or geological focus with strong analytical/quantitative skills
  • For positions in Subsurface Technology a preference is given to candidates enrolled in PhD programs and demonstrating a capability for collaborative research
  • Personal drive for geological or geophysical technical excellence
  • High level of initiative, energy and creativity

  • Strong analytical skills with a practical approach to problem solving
