President Václav Klaus on the Brandov BDS

  • The Brandov BDS ceremonially visit and opened by president Václav Klaus and Regional CEO Jana Vaňhová
  • The construction of the Brandov BDS finished according to schedule
  • The Czech Republic has strengthened its position in the energy security of the EU countries

Brandov, 20 October 2011 –President Václav Klaus, Jana Vaňhová, the CEO of the Ústí nad Labem Region, and the Executives of the NET4GAS company have officially opened the operation of the Brandov Border Delivery Station today by ceremonial cutting of a ribbon and signing a cutout of the gas pipeline. The station is part of a newly constructed pipeline bringing the Russian gas to Europe through the so-called southern route. “The completion of this Delivery Station is another important step to strengthen our energy security and a very good example of a quality mutual co-operation between a private investor, state and local self-government,” said president Václav Klaus at this occasion.

The Brandov Border Delivery Station connects the transmission system of the Czech Republic operated by the NET4GAS company with the newly constructed high-pressure pipeline OPAL in Germany. “This pipeline connects the transmission system of the Czech Republic with the NORD-STREAM pipeline. After the construction of a high-pressure pipeline (GAZELLE) is finished at the end of the next year, it will be possible to transport natural gas, simply and in sufficient volumes, up to the south of Germany and to France,” said Jan Nehoda, NET4GAS Executive.

“When visiting this place several weeks ago, I said that after commissioned the Brandov BDS would be a strategic part of the energy security not only for our region but also for the whole country. Today, we are opening the station. I am happy that we managed, at the regional level, to find the ways how to support this socially important project and facilitate its accomplishment. The fact the Mr President and me have now put the station into operation exactly a year after its foundation stone was laid fills me with pride as well as will to do our best so that we could do the same at the end of the next year when, however, the whole GAZELLE project will be concerned,” said Jana Vaňhová, the regional CEO.

The Brandov Border Delivery Station is thus of key importance not only for the newly contructed NORD-STREAM and OPAL pipeline systems but also for strengthening of the diversification of energy resources and thus also the energy security of the EU countries and the Czech Republic. The concept of the construction of a new high-pressure pipeline across the territory of the Czech Republic comprises also the possibility of uninterrupted natural gas supply in case of shutting gas flows through the existing route across Ukraine which strengthens our energy security, too. The only investor of the construction of the high-pressure pipeline connecting the OPAL and MEGAL systems in the Czech territory, whose part the Brandov Border Delivery Station being just finished is, is NET4GAS, s.r.o. The full investment for construction of the GAZELLE pipeline reaches to almost 10 billion CZK.

The route of GAZELLE pipeline has been planned mostly along the existing pipelines. It will go across anew territory only in its section between Mladotice and Chomutov. The GAZELLE pipeline will be connected with the existing system of the Czech Repulic at Brandov, Jirkov, Sviňomazy and Přimda. The total length of the GAZELLE pipeline should be 166km and the pipeline shold be conducted from Brandov to the Rozvadov/Waidhaus Border Delivery Statons.
