Key Relationships:High Performance Director, Junior/Future Black Sticks Coaches, Other Selectors
Contract Term:January 2017 to December 2018but will be reviewed annually. HNZ is entitled to terminate the position of National Selector at any time.
Appointment by: This is an unpaid position but expenses will be reimbursed for camps and tours
Main Objectives
1. / To select Junior Black Sticks(JBS), Future Black Sticks (FBS) squads as required2. / To ensure the selection policy set down by the Junior Black Sticks Coach and HNZ is adhered to and reviewed regularly
Key Tasks / Desired Outcomes
1. /
To attend:
-Trials and training camps-The entire National U21 Tournament / All players in contention for teams are given afair look at.
To help select the appropriate JBS squad.
2. / Communicate with the JBS Coach on a regular basis. / Timely communication.
3. / Select teams as requested under the guidance of the JBS Coach. / The best players are selected under the selection policy and in line with the playing policy of the JBS Coach.
4. / Notify the JBS Coach of any changes of plans regarding attendance at agreed activities. / Coach is kept informed.
5. / Have a good knowledge of the National and International hockey scene. / Know what is happening with hockey.
6. / Discuss any policy issues with the JBS Coach or the HPM and ensure policy or selection issues are kept in strictest confidence. / Correct procedures are followed
7. / Ensure HNZ is not brought into disrepute and no public criticism is made of any HNZ policy issues. / Correct channels are utilised to express views
8. / Selectors will be entitled to the following if authorised by the HPD:
-Rental car – where necessary
-Air travel
-Accommodation
-Mileage allowance
-Daily meal allowance
-Video of matches
-Relevant de brief documents following tours/camps / Limiting hindrances to carry out selectorial duties

Selector Qualifications and Knowledge
- Sound and up to date knowledge of the National Hockey Scene and the technical, tactical, physical and mental characteristics that are required in an elite hockey athlete.
- Understanding of the needs of the Black Sticks programme and national coaching staff with regards to athletes.
