Wirral Young Chef of The Year 2014
You are invited to nominate your chef for ‘Wirral Young Chef of the Year 2014’. Wirral Council in partnership with Wirral Metropolitan College, Liverpool Community College and Wirral News are proud to be launching this year’s prestigious competition.
Wirral restaurants and members of the Wirral Tourism Business Network are invited to nominate a young chef who works in their establishment aged between 16 and 25 years (on or before 1st January 2014), to take part in this year’s competition. Please complete the enclosed nomination form to enter your chef (or yourself) for this prestigious competition.
Nominations close on 31st August 2013 when all the nomination forms will be assessed by a panel of judges and five finalists selected to compete for the title of Wirral Young Chef of the Year 2014, the winner of which will be announced at the Wirral Tourism Awards in April.
Each of the five finalists will host a Young Chef of the Year evening on a Tuesday night in their restaurant, to showcase their skills, expertise and knowledge. The Young Chef will create a three course menu for his/her night using any ingredients they wish, though they should give evidence of using local/ regional and seasonal ingredients.
Wirral News readers will be invited to book to attend these evenings, at a cost of £18.95 per person inc. VAT for the three course meal, which is paid direct to the participating restaurant.
Diners will be asked to score on the quality of the meal. The public score will represent 50% of the score. In addition, all five finalists will take part in a ‘Cook-Off in March which will be judged by two renowned Chef Judges, this will represent the other 50% of the score.
We hope you will take this opportunity to nominate a young chef working in your restaurant. Listed below are the substantial benefits to the finalists taking part in this prestigious competition:
· Two pieces of editorial space in the Wirral News, (approx. 1 page in total) providing your young chef and restaurant with free marketing.
· A framed certificate, which can be displayed in your restaurant, which will be presented to your Young Chef at a photo call during his/her designated night, and feature in the following week’s Wirral News.
· The opportunity to raise the profile of your restaurant through association with this popular and prestigious initiative, enabling you to showcase your restaurant and attract additional custom from the substantial following of the competition.
· To be part of a competition that motivates and empowers ambitious young chefs.
· There will be a Wirral Young Chef of the Year logo which you can use in your restaurant menus. This logo is the property of Wirral Council so permission will have to be sought if you wish to use it in any other print or advertising.
· Each Young Chef finalist will receive one free ticket to the Wirral Tourism Awards Dinner in April.
· The winner of this competition will take the prestigious title ‘Wirral Young Chef of the Year 2014’.

v The reasons why you or your young chef should be a finalist in the competition. Highlight his/her career so far, ambitions within the industry, style of cooking, including his/her passion for food, their food heroes, etc. – indeed, whatever makes the young chef worthy of the title ‘Wirral Young Chef of the Year 2014’.
v Your young chef must devise a three course menu, that showcases quality seasonal, local/regional produce, that he/she would recommend to a group of four professional golfers following a day competing in The Open Golf Championship in July next year. (This exercise is only for the purposes of judging the nominations).
A panel of judges will select the five finalists from your written nomination and your young chef’s suggested menu. The judges will select the finalists from this written nomination after all references to the Chef or Restaurant are removed, so you cannot rely on the reputation of the Chef or Restaurant to assist in the selection process. So take time writing this nomination.
When the nominations have been judged in September the five finalists will be notified and informed of the date of their designated Wirral Young Chef of the Year evening.
