Task scenario:

You have been approached by Forest Heath Health Promotion department to help them implement some new health campaigns. You will act as the “go to” person which means that you are advising the department.

Tasks:

Using examples explain three of the different approaches to health education. Give examples of the approaches you have chosen. This should include definitions of health and how ideas about health have changed over the past 50 years. ( P1)

The department are going to spending quite a lot of money on the campaigns. They have asked you to evaluate the effectiveness of the media in health education. Prepare a report, using examples that will help them decide. You should be prepared to answer questions and support your opinions. (D1)

NOTE: This will be presented as a presentation

There are five major models used in behaviour change. The Health department needs to know information about TWO of the models. Explain two models and how they can be used. You must include examples of national campaigns to help the department understand the models you have chosen. (P2)

You need to ensure that the department understands that there are factors that alter the success of any campaign that is delivered. Investigate these factors and present your findings to the department. Use lots of examples to illustrate your ideas. If you can relate the factors to the Forest Heath district (M1)

The Health Promotion department are ready to look at planning their campaign. In this task you need to explain the steps to planning a campaign. You must also show them how all campaigns link to national health strategies. (P3)

  • Evaluating the campaign will be essential. Explain to the department pre set criteria and how important they are to measure the outcome of the campaign. Use examples from campaigns that are on going to help you explain the importance of pre set criteria. (M2)
  • It’s time to plan and implement your health campaign for Forest Heath! Plan and implement your campaign, presenting it to your chosen audience. Don’t forget to write a log! (P4)
  • Explain the ethical issues you considered planning and carrying out your campaign (P5)
  • It’s completed! You are now evaluating your work. Review your own performance when you implemented your campaign, remembering to make reasoned judgements and draw valid conclusions. You should use your audience’s views. (M3)
  • How successful has the campaign been? Has it had the right impact? Did your planning work? The health department are pleased with your performance but now needs a more comprehensive evaluation of the whole process. You should think about any improvements and any limiting factors of your campaign. Once again you can use your audience’s views. (D2)
