Dr. Brian DeLoach, Medical Director for Georgia Southern University Student Health Services, is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with private group practice and hospital practice experience. Dr. DeLoach received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Georgia and his Doctorate of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia, and he is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia Family Medicine Residency program, where he received the Bristol-Myers-Squibb Award for Outstanding Family Medicine Resident.
Before joining Georgia Southern University Student Health Services in 2008, Dr. DeLoach practiced for five years at Bohler Family Practice in nearby Brooklet, GA. He retains privileges at East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC) hospital in Statesboro, where his past roles have included Chairman of the Family Practice Department and member of the EGRMC Board of Trustees. Dr. DeLoach has a special interest in infectious disease and disaster response, and he is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Bulloch County Red Cross Chapter, where he served as chair of the Disaster Services Committee. Dr. DeLoach is also an active member of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Brian DeLoach has been the Medical Director at Georgia Southern University Health Services since 2008 and continues to receive excellent comments on patient satisfaction surveys regarding the clinical care provided to our students. He continues to strive towards providing excellent care and service to our students and the university in numerous ways.
In 2012 he led efforts resulting in successful accreditation by AAAHC and recognition by AAAHC as a Patient Centered Medical Home, and continues to oversee clinical operations on a daily basis to maintain those certifications. This is similar to Joint Commission (JCAHO) who accredits most hospitals. This was a daunting task and one that very few health centers in the country have achieved. Georgia Tech and UGA are the only other accredited heath centers in the USG system. He led the development of the current Pandemic Flu and Emergency Infectious Disease Plan and was an integral university leader and community liaison during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic health issue. In the last few years, he successfully converted the clinic to an electronic health record and implemented an appointment self-scheduling process for our students.
This past year and currently he wears many hats at the university and in our community that include:
-Clinical Preceptor for GSU School of Nursing Nurse Practitioner students
-Physician staff member at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, with refer-and-follow privileges
-Volunteers at the Hearts and Hands Indigent Care Clinic 1-2 weeknights per month
-Clinical preceptor for Mercer School of Medicine students
-Works closely with NCAA certified athletic trainers to provide health care for GSU athletes and serves as the Medical Director for the Athletic Trainers.
-During 2014 as District 1 Director for Georgia Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors, as well as a delegate to the GAFP congress of delegates, he led development of the campus wide AED program
-Recognized need for new health facility to meet both current and future needs, and campaigned successfully for approval for the building, and led vast majority of initial design phase of new building. Ground breaking was in December 2014, with scheduled completion in December 2015.
-Selected as the “Outstanding Family Medicine Attending Faculty” by Mercer School of Medicine Class of 2014.
-Recipient of 2014 “Deen Day Smith Service To Mankind Award”,
-Led campus-wide Ebola preparedness and response, leading coordinated efforts of multiple campus departments and served as our liaison with the community, local hospital and local health department.
-Led campus-wide response to national measles outbreak
