Women’s Golf: Santa Ana’s Mahany Fires An 80; Claims Top Medalist Honors

SANTA ANA, CA – Santa Ana College’s Jill Mahany fired an eight-over par 80 at the Riverview Golf Course (Santa Ana, CA) to claim top medalist honors in the Lady Dons’ Orange Empire Conference (OEC) women’s golf match with Fullerton College, Golden West College and Santiago Canyon College, Wednesday.

Fullerton’s Vivian Garcia, who shot an 84, was four strokes back while Golden West’s April Jackson and Santiago Canyon’s Jacquie Templin tied for third with rounds of 85.

Despite Mahany’s best round of the year the Lady Dons dropped both of its team matches with Santiago Canyon (349) and Golden West (377). There was no decision between Santa Ana and Fullerton as neither team fielded a full compliment of players.

Vicky Macias and Lei Bailey-Leahy shot rounds of 97 and 100, respectively, for host Santa Ana.

Next: Santa Ana will face Saddleback College on Monday, October 18 in a golf match to be held at Tijeras Creek Country Club. The match is scheduled to begin at noon.
