Come prepared to class. Students should have a textbook, notebook, pencil, and calculator everyday. A graphing calculator is highly recommended.

District Calculator Policy:

The secondary mathematics department of Central Bucks School District recognizes the use of calculators as a valuable tool for learning in the mathematics classroom. In certain advanced courses, graphing calculators with specific capabilities are important for daily classroom performance and are required for advanced placement tests. While no specific brands are endorsed, there are restrictions on the type of calculators allowed on certain classroom tests and final exams. Calculators, which do operations with variables, such as the TI-89, TI-92, and HP49G, will not be permitted to be used on the district final exams, even though they may be used on some nationwide tests. Teachers have the discretion as to whether these types can be used for particular classroom-related purposes.

Be ready to begin class as soon as the bell rings. Have materials and homework out and ready, and begin working on the assigned warm-up exercises.

Classwork, Homework, and Assignments

Homework will be spot checked from time to time for effort.You will start out with 50 out of 50 homework points for the marking period. If the assignment is not complete, two pointswill be taken away.

Some hand in assignments will be given on occasion. The assignments will be announced and will be graded on completeness and correctness. The value of these assignments will vary based on the number of problems assigned.

Tests and Quizzes

Quizzes may be announced or unannounced

Tests are always announced and will be divided into a calculator and non-calculator section.There will be multiple choice and free response components to each section to model the AP Exam.

If you finish a test or quiz early, please have something else to do (read a book, work on homework, etc.) There is no talking until all the tests have been collected.

Lateness

Be on time to class. If you are late, you must have a pass from a teacher or administrator. Each time you are late, it counts towards a detention or a cut.

Make-up Work

  • You are responsible for the work you miss.
  • All computerized notes, handouts, and assignments are posted on the teacher site on School Wires. Be sure to visit the site if you are absent or if you need extra copies of any handouts. Make sure you double check any information with a reliable classmate.
  • The length of time you have to complete the missed work will be the same length of time that you were absent (Example: if you were absent for 3 days, you have 3 days to complete the missed work)
  • Tests & Quizzes: If you are absent on a test or quiz day, you must make arrangements to make it up in a timely fashion. You will have 1 week to make arrangements to make up the assessment or you will not receive credit. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange the make-up not the teacher’s responsibility to seek the student out.

Grading

Your grade is calculated on a point system each semester. Each marking period is weight as follows:

Homework & Classwork: 10%Tests, Quizzes, & Projects: 90%

There is a final exam given at the end of the course. This exam grade is worth 20% of your final grade. It is comprised of a multiple choice section worth 70% of the exam and two core assessments each worth 15% of the final exam. *Students must reach “proficiency” on each of the core assessments.

Academic Integrity

Cheating consists of the following:

  • Giving or receiving unauthorized assistance (e.g., copying, stealing exams, using electronic aids/devices, Internet sources, or using aids like SparkNotes instead of reading the original work) in any academic work, quiz, test, or examination.
  • Using graphic calculators to store information/formulas, using camera phones or text messages to store or share testing information and/or other academic work.

Violations will be dealt with in accordance with the policy outlined in the student handbook.

Extra Help

I am available for extra help after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I am also available before school as long as you make arrangements with me ahead of time to schedule what time we will meet.
