Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS)

User’s Guide for PBIS Power Point Presentations and Related Materials

Produced by the Ohio PBIS Network (July 2010)

Background

This short guide is intended to assist State Support Team personnel within the 16 regions of the state and others to effectively use the materials produced and assembled by the Ohio PBIS Network. With the support of the Ohio Department of Education, a small committee of the Ohio PBIS Network (Karen Stine, Dena Shepard, Lynn McKahan, Cathy LaForme, Stephanie Falor and Amy Bixler Coffin) assembled and edited a series of four Power Point presentations and a PBS Workbook of related materials to be used by the regional consultants and others as they prepare for and support districts in the use of Positive Behavior Intervention Support. They are based on the materials and information distributed by the National Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, U.S. Department of Education. These Positive Behavior Intervention Support materials are being distributed through the Ohio PBIS Network on an informal basis and are not an official product or service of the State of Ohio or the Department of Education. State Support Teams, Education Service Centers and other agencies are under no obligation to use these materials for their trainings on PBIS. The materials may be edited to suit the needs of the regional presenters. We ask that presenters stay true to the basic principles of PBIS and consult the national website, www.pbis.org, network members or other regional experts if questions arise regarding the materials.

Purpose of PBIS Network

The Ohio PBIS Network is a group of individuals within the 16 regions of Ohio who are State Support Team consultants or representatives of Educational Service Centers, public agencies, school districts, colleges, or universities. The Network’s purposes are to a) create a collaborative network through a national PBIS website and electronic media; b) increase the visibility of PBIS and its use within the state by connecting support agencies and school districts with providers of High Quality Professional Development related to PBIS; c) improve the capacity of a state-wide system to offer support for improvement efforts in school districts; d) create an atmosphere where the research basis for behavior instruction and intervention is discussed constantly; and e) encourage ongoing investigations of effectiveness and participation in major research efforts regarding positive behavior intervention support.

Network Support for Presenters

These materials are being distributed by the Ohio PBIS Network to support individuals in the state as they implement PBIS in schools. We ask that you share your ideas, videos, pictures, programs, templates, etc., with the network so that we can pass along good ideas to others. We have no official web site or other central location for storage as we are not a budgeted entity at this point. Informal email will be our main means of communication at this time. You may share materials by emailing them to or by hitting “reply to all” in these preliminary emails. We hope to create a network sharing site in the very near future.
