Fall 2004
LAB GRADING PROCEDURES
Your lab grade is based on four events: attendance, PFA/PFT, PNS inspection, and your swim qualification. The point breakdown and grade requirements are listed below. The final grade is assigned according to the following scale:
EVENTPOINTSPOINTSGRADE
Attendance5590-100A
PFA/PFT2080-89B
PNS Inspection2070-79C
Swim Qual560-69D
0-59 E
ATTENDANCE-(maximum of 55 points) Deduct one point for every 10 minutes late. Deduct 10 points for missing a lab period without a written excuse previously approved by the MOI. For those enrolled in NS 103/403 (Marine option), deductions will be exactly one-half, since there will be twice as points. Every effort should be made to contact the unit, starting first with the student chain of command. If all else fails, leave a message on the unit’s answering machine, 626-5773.
(1)Attendance at Naval Science LAB is MANDATORY. Absences will be approved on a case by case basis. Schedule all your activities around the posted LAB schedule. Read the Plan of the week for updates.
(2)Swim test and PFA/PFT may be conducted outside the regular Wednesday time frame but are considered laboratory events. Missing these events without PRE-APPROVED excuses, as with the PNS inspection, results in double jeopardy, i.e., loss of attendance points and a reduction of maximum points allowed for the event.
(3)Medical excuses will also be considered on a case-by-case basis. However, if you are unable to participate, particularly in scored events, you will at best receive an I for the course grade (until the event can be completed) and in all probability will be considered for a medical leave of absence from the NROTC program. All excused personnel are still required to attend the PFA/PFT.
PFA/PFT – (maximum of 20 points)
(1)All personnel who fail the PFA/PFT, fail any single event or fail the Navy body fat requirements will be given a Performance Review Board (PRB).
(2)Other than for valid pre-approved excuses by the MOI, PFA’s and PFT’s taken on a rescheduled basis will be scored at 75% of the actual points earned.

GENERAL NOTE: Students are responsible to ensure that they have received the correct scores for each of the graded events. Scores for each event are the posed as soon as possible after the event. Any discrepancies should be rectified at that time. Weekly Lab attendance should also be corrected prior to the next Lab. Work through your Battalion chain of command. Corrections request during the last week of school will not be entertained.
