Press Office Volunteer

Volunteers are vital to Alzheimer’s Society. The charity supports people to live well with dementia today and funds research to find a cure for tomorrow. This role description is designed to give you clarity about what you are going to do and who will support you in it. All Alzheimer’s Society people are expected to commit to our vision and values which underpin what we do everyday.

How does this role make a difference?

The Alzheimer’s Society press office provides a high quality media service in order to raise the charity’s profile and promote its aims. A volunteer is needed to help provide support to the team.

What will you be doing?

  • Monitor the regional and national news agenda using the media database
  • Maintain the press clippings file
  • Liaise with Alzheimer’s Society’s media volunteers
  • Support the press team with general administration and projects as mutually agreed
  • Develop a basic understanding of Alzheimer’s Society activities
  • Attend basic training and other support workshops as necessary
  • To uphold the Society’s equal opportunities policy and inclusion policy.

Will the role be suitable for you?

No special qualifications or experience are needed, as training and support is provided. The following points, however, are important:

  • An interest in volunteering within a busy press office environment
  • A polite and courteous nature
  • A commitment to equal opportunities, treating all individuals with respect
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, confidentiality
  • Basic computer skills using standard software packages
  • Reliability, punctuality and the ability to meet agreed deadlines
  • Are committed to the Society’s expectations around values and behaviours

How will you be supported in this role?

You will receive support from your line manager.

How much time will you need to give?

We are looking for a volunteer who can commit 1-2 days a week between 9am-5pm for a minimum of 3 months.

How will Alzheimer’s Society support you?

  • Relevant induction for the role including being made aware of the behavioural framework which is intrinsic to the Society
  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities
  • One to one and/or group based support
  • Reimbursement of agreed out-of-pocket expenses.
