Background Information
I’m interested in building a start-up application that can help optimize people’s health by monitoring drug/supplement interactions and side effect.
Project Description
They are many mobile apps and software that deal with tracking health, fitness and nutritional intake. I’m seeking a team that can help build app/software that can track the effects a user experiences when taking a drug/supplement to help determine side effect causes and/or optimize body, including the combination of different drugs/supplements with the usage of data analysis. A perfect example is a website called reddit that has a community and subedit regarding nootropics. Nootropics is meant to enhance the brain, and people on that site from academics to normal person that act like human Guinee pigs when testing out different variation of drugs/supplement which can result either positively or harmful side effects . This same example also happens in the medical field when doctors sometimes treat their patients like human Guinee pigs to find out which drug is working or not or even counteracting the side effect with other drugs. To determine drug/supplement by brand, dosage, when and how it’s taken, possible even chemical component if that is possible. Optional objective is intertwine this concept with fitness and nutritional trackers.
Project Scope
We are open to any of these solutions plus open to suggestions with complete creative flexibility.
To be able to deal with machine learning and A.i they are some opensources you can implement and build on top such as www.openai.com, https://www.tensorflow.org/, http://www.seldon.io/open-source-machine-learning/, http://accord-framework.net/, http://numenta.com/, just to name the few which will deal with the Data that is collected.
This project will be for mobile app mainly IOS and optional android. You can utlize https://developer.apple.com/swift/ when developing solution.
1. When user registers on app it will ask basic questions such as name, email address, create password,etc.. in addition to sex, weight, height, race, age, lifestyle (if they smoke or drink,etc..), and geography (possible just use gps coordinates). They have optional questions to mention what drug/supplement that are taking also based on brand, dosage,when they take pill, estimate on how long they been taking pill.
2. To implement a notification reminder on when to take pill including dosage and to eat with food or empty stomach.
3. With the usage of the app user can manual mention what drug/supplement they are taking, and during day they can mention symptoms they might experience (you can get category data of symptoms and drugs/supplements) from sites like Webmd.com. user can mention any types of improvements they might feel
4. To use the intelligence to analyze data from current known side effects and benefits from known drugs and supplements and to what the users is experiencing. To be able to see any patterns based on how many people utilizing app to see similarities and differences, to see if there’s any improvements including for the machine learning to come up with conclusion if certain drugs/supplements or combination of different pills can benefit or cause harm.
5. For user to analyze their personal data and get recommendation of what combination of pills to improve health and counteract side effects, including what dosage and when and how to take.
6. Optional is to integrate with nutritional and health tracking systems including apple health app, 3rd party app and or physical devices like fitbit, smart watch, devices,etc..
Project Challenges
While some of you might or might not have some knowledge on medical aspect, the primary focus is on the data, how it correlates with each other, to understand the data, etc.. for example if 100 people was to use this app and all complained that a certain brand of vitamin c is causing headaches then we know for a fact it causes headaches but if they were using some other type of supplement or medication then to be able to determine what actually caused the headaches. You will have creative freedom to add additional features or methodology onto the project scope.
Constraints & Assumptions
No constraints, just complete flexibility and creative freedom.
· To be able to determine what drugs/supplements that cause side effects or improvements based on the brand, dosage, combination of other drugs/supplements, ingredients, etc…
· Intelligence data to be able to suggest what combinations of supplements/drugs could optimize health and offset any side effects. Great for nootropics to determine best stack of supplements can help optimize brain.
· Security and privacy is a must to protect users when gather and sharing data.

- Project website holding all work products and project artifacts maintained in the project account on the se.rit.edu web server.
- Project plan, schedule and process methodology definition prepared by the end of week 3 of the first term.
