1.3PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Retain first paragraph below with "Seismic Qualification Certificates" Paragraph in "Informational Submittals" Article for projects requiring seismic design.Model building codes and ASCE/SEI7 establish criteria for buildings subject to earthquake motions.Verify requirements of authorities having jurisdiction.

  1. Seismic Performance:Fire pumps shall withstand the effects of earthquake motions determined according to [ASCE/SEI7] <Insert requirement>.

Retain subparagraph below to define the term "withstand" as it applies to this Project.Definition varies with type of building and occupancy and is critical to valid certification.Option is used for essential facilities where equipment must operate immediately after an earthquake.

  1. The term "withstand" means "the unit will remain in place without separation of any parts from the device when subjected to the seismic forces specified[and the unit will be fully operational after the seismic event]."
  1. Pump Equipment, Accessory, and Specialty Pressure Rating:175 psig (1200 kPa) minimum unless higher pressure rating is indicated.

1.4ACTION SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data:For each type of product indicated.Include rated capacities, operating characteristics, performance curves, electrical characteristics, and furnished specialties and accessories.
  2. Shop Drawings:For fire pumps, motor drivers, and fire-pump accessories and specialties.Include plans, elevations, sections, details, and attachments to other work.
  3. Detail equipment assemblies and indicate dimensions, weights, loads, required clearances, method of field assembly, components, and location and size of each field connection.
  4. Wiring Diagrams:For power, signal, and control wiring.

1.5INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS

Retain first paragraph below if required by seismic criteria applicable to Project.See ASCE/SEI7 for certification requirements for equipment and components.

  1. Seismic Qualification Certificates:For fire pumps, accessories, and components, from manufacturer.
  2. Basis for Certification:Indicate whether withstand certification is based on actual test of assembled components or on calculation.
  3. Dimensioned Outline Drawings of Equipment Unit:Identify center of gravity and locate and describe mounting and anchorage provisions.
  4. Detailed description of equipment anchorage devices on which the certification is based and their installation requirements.

Retain first paragraph below for product certificates from manufacturers.

  1. Product Certificates:For each fire pump, from manufacturer.
  2. Source quality-control reports.
  3. Field quality-control reports.

1.6CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS

  1. Operation and Maintenance Data:For fire pumps to include in operation and maintenance manuals.

1.7QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories:Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application.
  2. NFPA Compliance:Comply with NFPA20, "Installation of Stationary Pumps for Fire Protection."

1.8COORDINATION

  1. Coordinate sizes and locations of concrete bases with actual equipment provided.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR CENTRIFUGAL FIRE PUMPS

  1. Description:Factory-assembled and -tested fire-pump and driver unit.

Retain first paragraph below for projects in seismic areas.

  1. Base:Fabricated and attached to fire-pump and driver unit with reinforcement to resist movement of pump during seismic events when base is anchored to building substrate.
  2. Finish:Red paint applied to factory-assembled and -tested unit before shipping.

2.2END-SUCTION FIRE PUMPS
