Feedback on FIP

Creating a Welcoming School Environment

●Summary - how do we support transitions and help people feel welcomed

●We feel like we’re doing all of the strategies

●“Transitions between schools”

○Could add something about transition to Northeast about the shadowing day, picnic, etc.

●Could display more student culturally relevant artwork near the entrance of the school

●Comment box needs to be in the main office

Partnering with Families

●Sharing the FIP

○We need to do this via backpacks and copies in office

●Need to create a FIP survey to all families to gather information for next year

Communication and Access

●Summary - make sure everyone understands what’s happening here at Pillsbury and that they receive the information in their language

●Ensure all of the community partners are listed in the FIP

●Ensure communication about what is happening goes to all families

○Ex. SPED families who go to resource room may miss out on communication

○Ensure all teachers are informed as well

Capacity building

●We will encourage Families to attend monthly Parent Advisory Council Meetings (Latino PAC, Somali PAC, Hmong PAC, African American PAC, District PAC, & BOE PACs).

●We should invite leaders from the PAC to come here

●Family listening session

●Need cultural affinity groups

●Can we get family input

●Can we survey families about meeting times?

●Revisit meeting times, even this year?

Engaging families in academic achievement

●¨Teachers will send short, informative notes to report Student Progress weekly or bi-weekly.

○Why isn’t this checked? We should be doing this!

●Calendar to share academic achievement feedback

○Can we share progress of all 1st graders?

■Here’s what we’re working on

○Strategy - postcards with stamps

■Everyone gets them eventually

■Ensure notes are specific, academic-focused, and individualized

●Acknowledge strengths

●Curriculum night would be nice

●Regular communication through website and app about what students are doing

●Need more communication about academics vs. behavior

●Suggest grade level meetings/curriculum day or night quarterly

February meeting topics:

●School budget - Date for meeting may change based on when we get budget information
