To the membership of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Naval Reserve Association

Thank you for your interest in our Soldier Project. Since November of 2003, The Sertoma Club of DTC has conducted a fund raising project to help some of our seriously wounded soldiers recuperating at WalterReedArmyMedicalCenter in Washington, DC. While these men and women receive the finest medical care available, they still have some additional needs.

After hearing from many of the wounded men and women (a significant number who are amputees), we know our tear away sweats and roller luggage are very important items for their return to a normal life. These items allow the soldiers to dress in civilian clothes and the luggage enables them the mobility to travel with their belongings. Just as important are the letters we deliver from students, candy from Hammonds Candies and the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, and other gifts from members of the community.

One of the recurring themes when conversing with these soldiers is the fact that they are very grateful and appreciative that the folks in the civilian sector haven’t forgotten them.

As a result of generosity from people like you, the Sertoma Club of DTC has sent over $160,000 worth of merchandise to these recuperating soldiers. Won’t you please consider a donation this year?

Please mail your donation to: The Sertoma Club of DTC, c/o Wes Schuneman 309 Jerry St, Castle Rock, CO 80104. If you have any questions, I can be reached at 303-947-6784. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.

We also earn money for this project through various fund raisers such as our annual Wine Tasting – and this year we’ve added a Chocolate Tasting – and Silent Auction as well. Please see the attached brochure.

I have additional information, press clippings and letters, one of which is from the General of the Army’s Special Operations Forces, and another from Col. Patrick Allen who was recalled to active duty from his reserve status for two years who help our club establish this program. He is currently back in Colorado. If you would like additional information, please give me a call.

Sincerely,

David S. Oppenheim
