May Minutes for the Executive Committee Meeting of Richland Section of the ACS.
Meeting: 5:30 PM on Monday, May 3rd at the Richland Library, Richland, WA.

Sam Bryan had prepared an agenda for the Meeting, which focused on planned and planning for upcoming events. The Meeting agenda is attached.
· Minutes to the April 5th Meeting were approved with minor editing.
· An updated budget reflecting all expenditures as of May 3rd is attached.
· The Expanding Your Horizons in Math and Science activity will be held on May 22nd at WSU TriCities. Janet Bryant and Megan Lerchen planned and are heading the activity.
· The Mini-Symposium for Karen grant May 21st will be held at CBC. All planning has been done. The issue of where and when EOU student posters should be hung was discussed. It was decided that student posters would be hung in the L102 at 3:30 prior to the award presentation for Karen Grant around 4:00. The speaker will talk at 4:30-5:30. The title of Dr. Karchesy’s talk is: Natural Products and our Forest Resources- The Undiscovered Heritage. After the talk a social hour and dinner will be held at the Sundance Grill in Richland, Wa. The dinner selection will be prime rib, fillet of salmon, chicken chardonnay and a vegetarian dish. Dinner is 25.00 a person. Tom Jones can be contacted for RSVP.
· Steve was tasked with sending a postcard to members reminding them of the poster session.
· The Local Section of the ACS has had a booth at the Science Carnival held by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation for the past few years. The event this year will be held on May 15th from 10:30-2:30. Karen Grant said she could enlist the aid of some students. Sam Bryan was interested in helping with the slime and silly putty.
· The third ACS Tour Speaker, Ken Cobbs will give a talk on 9/14/04 either at CBC in the large auditorium or at the Battelle auditorium. The talk will be on glass chemistry and is titled “Glass: Its Many Facets”.
· On October 19th, John Fortman will give a talk: Demonstrations of Everyday Applications of Chemistry, in the new Science auditorium in La Grand, OR.
· The picnic is scheduled for June 18th, 2004. All planning appears to be finished. This year the Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (CHMM) group is joining the party.
· Janet talked a bit more about the Earth Day Celebration that was held on April 22nd. Janet told us that the Local Section contribution was used to plant a Norway Maple in McMurray Park in North Richland. The cost of the tree and planting was about $80.
· Tim Hubler and Sam Bryan trip traveled to Boise to forward the NORM 2007 Meeting activity there. Tim and other organizing members have proposed the event be held at The Boise Center on the Grove in Boise and remarked that there were four hotels, all within 2 blocks of the Center.
· The Joint Northwest/Rocky Mountain Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society will be at Utah State University, Logan, Utah, June 6-9, 2004: The technical program is on the website. http://www.chem.usu.edu/~alexandrova/ACS.php
The Online Registration Deadline is May 17, 2004.
· A Reminder that the NORM 2005 is in Fairbanks, Alaska and NORM 2006 is in Reno, Nevada
· A National Chemistry Week Chairperson is still needed. The theme this year is “Health and Wellness”.
· Sam suggested that persons with Meeting agenda issues should contact him for their inclusion at the Local Section Meetings.
· A motion was made to skip the July and August Meetings. The motion was seconded and passed.
· The meeting ended at 6:30.
