Brief call. Challenges to getting rolling on our catalog of reports and data are mostly lack of time in general and lack of in-office time in particular (which makes it difficult to post documents and updates to the shared folder). To assist, another folder will be added to the directory for materials to be posted by those that will not have the time to complete the catalog data, and we will use interns to complete the cataloging process. Save an electronic copy of reports with your name included in the file name so know have a contact for questions and to ultimately verify that you feel the cataloging was completed properly. If you do not have access inside the Department firewall (e.g., Frank and Larry), or you do not have enough uninterrupted in-office time to post items even in this new folder, you may send copies of files to Brent (please firstinsert your name in the file name before sending to me). I have made additions/revisions to the steps outlined in the notes from our19 September 2014 call and have provided them below to include this alternative approach.

Also, Larry Leefers has been short on time, but in particular has lots to contribute to this effort, and will be goneOct 8 – Oct 31. An intern will visit Larry’s office to be set up with materials for this cataloging effort – he will make arrangements with Donna.

  1. Compile reports or sources of data that provide information relevant to the Workgroup charge
  2. Catalog these sources by completing all data fields in the file “MI Econ Impact and Value Data 9-19-14.xlsx” (which was distributed via email by Brent Rudolph and is saved in the folder noted below), and save a copy of the file with your first name at the start (e.g., “Rudolph MI Econ Impact and Value Data 9-19-14.xlsx”)
  3. Save any electronic copies of reports and periodically save updated versions of your completed catalog to the “DNR Economic Data Workgroup” folder at this directory: \\HCS761STGESW901\dnrftp\pub\forestry.
  4. If you have electronic copies of reports to be cataloged but do not have the time to complete the catalog information yourself, save files (with your name included in the file name) in \\HCS761STGESW901\dnrftp\pub\forestry\DNR Economic Data Workgroup\Catalog Assistance. We’ll work with interns to see the cataloging completed and they will contact you as needed.
  5. If you do not have access inside the Department firewall (e.g., Frank and Larry), you will not be able to connect to the shared folder. You can still access the materials posted here by going to the .ftp site: To have materials posted on your behalf, contact Brent or Dave.
  6. As you accumulate sources, begin to consider what important information appears to be lacking. To assist with this more broadly, Brent will make a master copy of the combined catalog incorporating information provided by all Workgroup members. We will review and discuss the compiled and still lacking information.
