Aimof the seminar: To explore creative approaches to curriculum change.
Objectives:
- To develop a personal perspective.
- To develop collaborative practice through Action Research
- To develop creativity across and through the Initial Teacher Education curriculum.
Outcomes of the day:
The seminar will give delegates the opportunity to:
- share examples of practice from a range of communities of practice
- critically engage with perceptions of creativity
- contribute to current curriculum review

10.20 – Presentations:
a) Robert Meadows, Creative Partnerships, North West and
Emma Brown, PGCE Senior Lecturer, Drama Education at
The CentralSchool of Speech and Drama, University of
London present:
‘Engaging with perceptions of creativity’
b) Donna Hurford, Creative Partnership Co-ordinator, University
ofCumbria presents:
‘What’s out there? school-based Action Research’
c) Dennis Howlett and Sally Elton- Chalcraft, Module leaders for
the Creativity and Effective Curriculum M level PGCE Module
at the University of Cumbria accompanied by a classroom teacher
present:
‘The Creative and Effective Curriculum for Initial Teacher
Education and Schools’
11.20 - Coffee and refreshments
11.40 – Workshop and round table opportunities, session one. These
are repeated in the afternoon so delegates should sign up for
two different ones to attend.
a)Robert Meadows will be joined by two young teachers to
present a workshop which is related to secondary school
practice:
‘Applied Creativity in Secondary Practice’
b) Emma Brown will present a cross-phase workshop:
‘Working in Settings Other than Schools: Brokering Creative
Partnerships’
c) Donna Hurford will present a cross-phase workshop entitled:
‘Participatory and Creative Approaches to Teaching and
Learning’
d)Dennis Howlett and Sally Elton-Chalcraft present a Round
Table to give the opportunity to delegates to hear more
about the points raised in their earlier presentation and give
delegates the opportunity to engage in discussion. Though
this has a primary focus, it is applicable to secondary as
well.

1.45 – Mark Chater from the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority
will address delegates, to explain present work and opportunities.
