"Lemkos, Boykos, Hutsuls, and Ruthenians - the history, the present, and the material and spiritual culture"

Svidnik, 21-23 June 2013

We invite you to participate in the conference, which is a continuation of a series of conferences: "Lemkos, Boykos, and Ruthenians – the past, the present and the future" Zielona Gora (Poland) 2007, "Lemkos, Boykos, Hutsuls, and Ruthenians - the history, the present, and the material and spiritual culture" Zielona Gora 2009; "Lemkos, Boykos, Hutsuls, and Rusyns - the history, the present, and the material and spiritual culture" Slupsk (Poland) 2011.

In June 2013, the conference will be held for the first time in Svidnik, Slovakia, which is considered to be the unofficial capital of the north-eastern Slovakia’s Ruthenians. The conference date is not accidental. At that time, the 49th Festival of Culture of Slovakia’s Ruthenians-Ukrainians will be held in Svidnik.

Participants are expected to arrive on June 21. On the same day, a gala dinner is planned to be held. The conference sessions will take place on June 22. Departure of the participants is planned for June 23.

The conference is interdisciplinary. The languages ​​of the conference are: Slovak, Polish, Ukrainian, and English. The purpose of the conference is to present the history, culture and contemporary issues of Lemkos, Boykos, Hutsuls, and Ruthenians (residing in the Transcarpathia and in the north-eastern Slovakia), the regional groups living on the Ukrainian-Polish-Slovak-Hungarian-Romanian border, and the diaspora scattered around the world.

Papers delivered during the conference will be published in Poland in the fifth volume of a collective work entitled "Lemkos, Boykos, Ruthenians - the history, the present, and the material and spiritual culture." The condition for publication of the materials provided by the authors iscompliance with the criteria laid down by the editors of the collective work.

The estimated conference fee is 30 euros. As part of this fee, the organizers will provide the participants with: dinner on June 21, 2013, conference materials, coffee and pastry during coffee breaks, lunch, and a banquet at the end of the conference on June 22, 2013. In special cases, at a request of the participants, the organizers may waive the conference fee.

The participants are responsible for their own accommodation and their own breakfasts. The organizers recommend hotel "Rubin" located in the center of Svidnik and not far from the site of the conference. Hotel offers accommodation with breakfast.The website of the hotel is:
