Senior Time Line

August/ September:

Verify that your schedule for senior year meets graduation and college entrance requirements.

Register/ take the ACT exams – be aware of registration deadlines.

VisitCollegeCampuses.

  • Attend College Presentations in the Career Center
  • Check out College Websites for entrance requirements and application deadlines.
  • Start applying to colleges.
  • Start applying for Scholarships. Scholarships will be listed on the Career Center website throughout the school year. You will also see scholarships on the college websites. These maybe unique to your program of study or major.
  • Set up an account through Parchment to request to have your transcripts sent to the college of choice. (Parchment is a third party vendor who will send your transcript on your behalf. For instruction on setting up your account please look at the "Registration" tab on the Perry website and click on the Registration link and scroll down to Transcript Request for additional information. Your senior counselor, secretary and registrar, will also have instructional handouts for you too.
  • If you plan to play sports in college, be sure and register with the NCAA Clearing house. (
  • Request letters of recommendations from teachers, counselors, and/or employers.Fill theLetter of Recommendation Request Formand give it to the person you are requesting a letter from.Please give them a minimum of two week to complete you letter. (Note: Letters are not written over fall, winter or spring breaks so be sure to plan ahead)Teachers and counselorsspend a lot of time on your letter and a quick note of thanks is much appreciated.
  • Attend College Night.This year it will be held on Monday, September 21 at the Chandler Center for the Arts.This is open to all students and parents. Your local Community Colleges and Universities will be presenting.DO NOT MISS THIS!!!!!
  • Work on your personal essay.Be sure to have a teacher help you proof read and edit it. This is a very powerful part of your application process for schools and scholarships. Your essay may be the deciding factor as to whether or not you are accepted to the school of your choice or the scholarship you are applying for. (Tips on writing the personal essay are available in the Career Center)
  • Interested in one of the Military Academies?Now is the time to get your nomination and application completed.IMPORTANTCheck your Senator or Congressman's website for due dates.
  • Continue to apply for Scholarships and visit theCareerCenter!
  • Make an appointment with Ms. Phillips in the Career Center if you have questions.
  • Is Military enlistment once of your Career Choices? Meet with your U.S. Military recruiters. Most branches will set up a browse table in the cafeteria during all lunch periods
  • Plan to attend the Phoenix National College Fair on Sunday September 23rd. Schools represented from all over the country, will be held at thePhoenixConvention Centerfrom 11am – 3pm. Register online before you go! This is great “one-stop-shopping” For more information please visit this website:

October:

  • Use your break to visit college campuses.Do not rely on brochures only.Visiting a school is the only way you will really get to know it.
  • Plan ahead to attend Financial Aid Night, which will be held October 26, 2016 Place it on your calendar now! Important for your parents to attend. This will help both you and your parents understand the Financial Aid Process
  • Apply For the FAFSA id number and complete your FAFSA referencing your 2015 tax return
  • Register/ re-take SAT and or ACT exam again for score improvement.If you are applying to a highly selective school, you most likely will have to take the SAT Subject Test.Be sure to check the college’s admissions website.
  • Continue applying and visitingcolleges.
  • If you are planning on living on Campus, housing fills up quickly. Make sure you apply by the early application deadline to secure your spot.
  • New and expiring scholarship are available. Make sure you are visiting all websites regularly.

November:

  • Repeat SAT/ ACT if necessary.You can take these tests as often as you want.The colleges will use your highest scores for admittance and merit based scholarships.
  • Apply to in state universities.Meet the priority Deadlines if you can.
  • Be sure to make a copy of everything you submit.Documents can get “lost” and it is always wise to have a duplicate.
  • Continue to apply for Scholarships.

December:

  • Don’t forget:check and re-check your college websites for applications and scholarship deadlines.Be sure to get your application in by then if you have good grades and test scores.
  • If you still haven't ordered your transcript make sure you get it done before break. Your official transcript should be sent to colleges/ scholarships you are applying for.

January:

  • Submit your FAFSA if you have not already done so as soon as possible.Go to private colleges require the CSS PROFILE.Be sure to check and see if this is required.
  • Continue to apply for Scholarships
  • If you are more inclined to attend a community college or trade school, this would be time to enroll. Several of our Maricopa Community Colleges and Central Arizona colleges offer both Associates degree and Certifications of completion. (Associates degree is a 2 year program, Certification programs can be completed earlier and time commitment can very.
  • If you are thinking about a trade school, be sure to look at the cost of attendance as many school are competitive in cost of attendance.
  • Many Scholarship opportunities have expired and several new ones will appear on the Career Center website over the next few months.Be sure to keep an eye out for the CEF (Chandler Education Foundation) Scholarships. Only CUSD high school students are eligible to apply for them. These scholarship will also be posted on the Career Center Website.
  • Hang in there, be diligent in your classwork...this is no time for senoritas

February:

  • You should begin to hear from some of your colleges.Please check in with the Career Center and share your successes.
  • Keep up your grades as schools will require mid-term andfinal transcripts.
  • Continue to apply for Scholarships.Watch for theChandlerGilbert or Maricopa Scholarships to post on their websites.
  • Students planning to attend one of the Maricopa Community Colleges should take the Accuplacer test.You may take the Accuplacer test at any of the Maricopa Community Colleges.If you are in the top 20% of your class at the end of your 6th,7thor 8thsemester and or have a 3.0 gpa and have scored well in all sections of the Accuplacer, you may qualify for the Presidents Scholarship. This is a full tuition waiver to any of theMaricopaCommunity College.

March:

  • Complete theChandlerEducation Foundation Scholarships.These are usually due immediately following break and do require recommendation letters, so be prepared.Go to more information.
  • Watch for your SAR (Student Aid Report) from Financial Aid.
  • Register for AP Exams if appropriate.
  • Apply for Scholarships and visit theCareerCenter!

April:

  • Decision letters will continue to arrive.You must make a final decision normally by May 1st,so this is the month to decide where it is you want to go.
  • Log into your student portal an accept your loans and scholarship
  • Notify other schools that you will not be attending.
  • Be sure to inquire about Housing if you have not already done so.
  • Complete your scholarship "green sheet" .Make sure you list all of the scholarship that you have been "officially" offered whether or not you are accepting them.
  • Return your Scholarship green sheet to Ms. Phillips in the Career Center no later than April 17th in order to be acknowledged at your awards night

May:

  • May 1stis the deadline for most college decisions.Be sure to send in the necessary deposits.
  • Take AP exams
  • Congratulations! You are now a Perry High Graduate and moving on to new and rewarding experiences!
