Ancient Rome Research Project
Due Date: Wednesday, June 7 Points: 50 + 10 for the presentation
Paper must be printed, not shared.
In groups of 2 you will be selecting a research topic and working collaboratively on a research project. The research project includes:
- researching the topic
- writing a 5-paragraphpaper
- creating a Google Slideshowpresentation
- presenting the presentation to the class
Research Paper Requirements
- Five paragraphs
- An introductory paragraph—with 2 quotes that are cited
- Three body paragraphs
- Each with a topic sentence
- 2 quotes that are properly cited
- Transitions between quotes
- Analysis of the quotes
- A concluding sentence
- Aconcluding paragraph that restates your research
- You must use a minimum of 2 sources (1 electronic and 1 print)
- You must only use the Internet sources listed below. No exceptions. No exceptions. No exceptions.
- A Works Cited page for your quotes
- I will provide the books you need for your research
Google Slideshow Requirements
- Title slide
- Must contain a title, one image and both names
- 3 content slides
- The content slides must contain a title and bullet points that summarize your research in your own words
- each slide should have a meaningful picture.
Presentation Requirements
•The presentation must be 3-5 minutes long
- Both students must participate in the presentation
- The presentation must be rehearsed and professionally presented
Ancient Rome Research Project Topics
These are the topics for the research project. These topics are broad so that you can decide what is important and what is not important. For this assignment, it is important to write and present more than just the basic facts. Research your topic thoroughly to find the when, where, why and how.

Research Paper Schedule
Here is the schedule for the research assignment. It is very important for all students to come to class every class period. If you miss days, you are letting your partner down. In order for you to be able to finish this project in class, it is essential for all students to be working on the project each and every single class period. POINTS WILL BE TAKEN OFF THE FINAL PROJECT FOR DISTRACTING, OFF TASK OR NOISY BEHAVIOR. IF YOU ARE NOT ON THE WEBSITES I HAVE PROVIDED YOU, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR IPAD PRIVLEGE AND YOU WILL HAVE TO WRITE YOUR PAPER BY HAND.
Day 1-Thursday, May 25
Introduce research project assignment. Select topics and groups. Teach research strategies. Start your research. You must show me what topic you have decided to do by the end of class.
Day 2-Tuesday, May 30
Research in books and on the Internet. You must show me evidence of research by the end of class.
Day 3- Wednesday, May 31—2 classes
Continue researching print and Internet sources. Groups should begin outlining and writing rough drafts for the research paper. You must show me at least one completed paragraph by the end of class.
Day 4—Thursday, June 1
Write paper and work on PowerPoint presentation. You must show me three completed paragraphs and at least one slide by the end of class.
Day 5—Tuesday, June 6—possibility of more than one class today
Write paper and work on PowerPoint presentation. You must show me the rough draft of the paper and at least two completed slides by the end of class.
Wednesday, June 7—Project due in class. There will be time to make last minute changes and print in class. We start the presentations in the afternoon class.
