Paracas Declaration and Bali Plan of Action encourage to implement Ecosystem Based Management (EBM) approaches among APEC economies, to ensure the sustainable management of the marine environment and its resources, providing for sustainable economic benefits from the oceans, and enabling sustainable development of coastal communities.Marine spatial planning is one element of ocean or sea use management; zoning plans and regulations are one of a set of management measures for implementing marine spatial planning.
To implement Paracas Declaration and Bali Plan of Action, APEC Marine Sustainable Development Center (AMSD) will hold APEC Workshop on Marine Spatial Planning, which seeks to exchange and share a practical way to create a more rational organization of the use of marine space and the interactions between its uses, to balance demands for development with the need of protection, and to achieve social and economic objectives in an open and planned way in the APEC economies.
The Themes of the Workshop are:
Purpose and Need for MSP
Defining and Analyzing Current and Future conditions and the Impacts From Climate Change
Sustainable use of Marine Resource
Developing the framework of MSP
The workshop will be held from 23to 28 September, 2012 in Xiamen China.We welcome your economy’s participation inthe workshopand wewould be grateful if you could confirm your participants at your early convenience. of AMSD ( . The schedule details of the workshop and two days field trips from Xiamen to other seaboard are yet to be advised on the website too.
Please note that our project will fund no more than two(2) participants from each travel-eligible economy (including economy-class round tripairfare, meals, accommodation and incidentals, etc). Participants from non travel-eligible economies are equally welcome. Expected participants should be either practitioners of coastal managers, practitioners of MPA, researchers or policy makers from APEC economies.
