Construct Wall and Ceiling Frames

Unit purpose:
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to:-
· plan, prepare, set out, construct and erect load bearing and non-load bearing wall frames for the different types of loadings determined by the roof top and bracing configuration. It includes set out, cutting and fabrication of both timber and metal wall frames, and the erection, connection and bracing of wall frames to specifications.
· plan, prepare, set out, construct and erect ceiling frames to accommodate ceiling joists, hanging beams, strutting beams and composite beams. It includes selection of members and setting out of the ceiling frame in conjunction with the roof members.
Pre-requisite units:
CPCCOHS2001A Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
Assessment overview:
Grade code: NC, AC.
Assessment events:
Assessment events that are scored out of 100 require a pass mark of 50 or more to be deemed Competent. To achieve competency in other events all of the requirements need to be addressed to a level that is deemed appropriate by the class facilitator. Participants who do not meet the required standard will be given the opportunity to resit or resubmit the assessment once, after retraining. If on the second attempt the participant still does not meet the standard they will be required to repeat the Cluster.
Assessments can be completed on the course Moodle site or in a written form. Written assessments or electronically produced work can be uploaded to the Moodle or handed in in hard copy to the class facilitator.
Any photos taken for an assessment task must have the participants TAFE Card featured in it to prove authenticity.
Other information:
· Assessments that are submitted late, without prior consultation with the facilitator, will be treated as a NC and the late submission will be treated as a resubmission.
· If a student is absent on the day of an assessment event they are to make arrangements to complete the assessment on their next day of attendance.
· Teachers will accept “draft” assignments providing that they are presented with sufficient time to allow for feedback and any indication of competence is not a reflection of the final result.

· If you have a permanent or temporary condition that may prevent you successfully completing the assessment task(s) you should immediately talk with your teacher about ‘reasonable adjustment’. This is the adjustment of the way you are assessed to take into account your condition and may include providing a support person or extra time. The assessment criteria cannot be altered.
· If you do not agree with the mark/grade given for your assessment task, you may appeal the assessment decision. You should first discuss the assessment result with your teacher. If you are not satisfied with the outcome of that discussion you can access the appeal process through the staff in the campus administration office.

Assessment Events
1 Wall Frame Construction
You will be required to construct a wall frame as part of a practical activity. This will involve identifing and selecting Wall frame components in accordance with regulatory criteria and load bearing requirements, Location of walls is set out on a slab or sub floor frame in accordance with dimensions, drawings, plans and specifications, Wall plates are set out and cut to length, Wall plates are marked to accommodate studs and openings and/or cladding and lining types, Pattern stud is set out, Studs, trimmers and noggings are cut to length, Wall frames are fabricated, including lintels and bracing, Wall frames are erected, fixed into place and aligned to specification, Erected walls are temporarily braced, Walls are straightened, plumbed and aligned. There will be a short theory component incorporsted with this assessment to confirm knowledge.
2 Ceiling Frame Construction
There will be a short theory component incorporsted with this assessment to confirm knowledge.
The assessment will include, Ceiling frame components are identified and selected in accordance with regulatory criteria, Location of ceiling joists are set out on the top plate to specifications for spacings of roof and ceiling members, Ceiling joists and trimmers are cut to length, placed and securely fixed to locations in accordance with specifications, Install hanging beams, Hanging beam sizes and spacings are checked in accordance with regulatory criteria, . Hanging beams are installed, Hanging beams on external walls are placed alongside rafter locations where specified, Ceiling joists are connected using appropriate connecting methods to hanging beams. There will be a short theory component incorporsted with this assessment to confirm knowledge.
