Persons Living With HIV/AIDS and Their Families
Persons with HIV/AIDS and their families refers to households with at least one family member living with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) or living with AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).
The City of Pasadena has worked with community residents and nonprofit service providers for over a decade to address the needs of persons living with HIV or AIDS. Recent statistics show a steady decline in the percentage of people dying from the disease in the last few years, both in Pasadena and Countywide, suggesting a continuing need for services to assist people living with the disease.

The City utilizes funds through the HUD HOPWA and HOME programs to provide tenant-based rental assistance to extremely low-income individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS, along with case management and supportive services. The supportive services address the immediate care and longer-term needs of the participants including health care, mental health, substance abuse, public benefits, private insurance and legal assistance. In FY 2000, the City allocated $167,810 to provide the above services to individuals and their families living with HIV/AIDS. In addition, Serra Project, Inc. was awarded $682,216 through the HUD Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance - Supportive Housing program coordinated by the City to provide service-enriched affordable housing for individuals and their families living with HIV/AIDS.
