Job Title: PAWS Volunteer Program Assistant

Rate: $10.50 - $12.50 hourlyDOE / 15 hours per week

A Northwest leader in protecting animals since 1967, the Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) shelters homeless animals, rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife, and empowers people to demonstrate compassion and respect for animals in their daily lives.

Purpose of the Position:

To provide administrative assistance and program support to the PAWS Volunteer Program. Assists the PAWS Volunteer Program Managerswith processing volunteer applications, data entry and reporting, and volunteer and agency events. Handles the day-to-day operations of the volunteer program in the absence of the Managers.

Duties and responsibilities:

In accordance with organizational policies, duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provides administrative support to the PAWS Volunteer Program.
  • Responds to a high volume of volunteer inquiries via phone and email.
  • Assists the managers with volunteer recruitment.
  • Schedules all New Volunteer Orientations.
  • Screens volunteer applications and tracks pending applicants
  • Presents New Volunteer Orientation to prospective volunteers.
  • Data entry and database optimization.
  • Produces reports of volunteer hours and other metrics.
  • Assists with volunteer appreciation and recognition activities and events.
  • Provides assistance and volunteer coordination to the Community Education Coordinator and the Events Coordinatoras directed.
  • Assists with other projects as assigned.

Controls over work:

The PAWS Volunteer Program Assistant works under the guidance of the Wildlife Volunteer Program Manager and the Companion Animal Services Programs Manager and is expected to pursue the established duties with minimum direct supervision.

Written performance evaluations will be given after the first three and 12 months of work and annually thereafter.

Physical demands:

Must be able to lift a minimum of forty (40) pounds. Work may be performed both in and out of the PAWS facilities requiring lifting and carrying of equipment and supplies. Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, including working at a computer.

Requirements:

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must be able to read, write and speak clearly in English so that written and verbal instructions can be followed. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to work daily in an office environment with companion animals, as well as an office environment within a wildlife hospital.
  • Must be able to work maturely and respectfully with diverse groups of people, work co-operatively with co-workers and maintain high-quality public relations.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Must be able to assist in creating a positive working environment built on team concepts.
  • Must be able to work quickly, efficiently and calmly under stressful conditions. Must be able to multitask and handle multiple projects and responsibilities. Preference may be given to candidates with prior experience supervising or organizing volunteers.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality and possess a tactful and sincere attitude.
  • Must be an effective and engaging public speaker. Must be able to represent the mission, goals and policies of PAWS in a creative and energetic manner. Must be able to represent PAWS professionally at all times.
  • Must have excellent computer skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointrequired. Must have prior experience with database software. Familiarity with CERVIS and PetPoint a plus.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Washington driver’s license with no major or repeated minor traffic offenses.
