About theColloquium
TheWomen’sResearchColloquium,thesignatureeventofthePresident’sCommissionontheStatus ofWomen(PCSW),willbeheldApril26,2018,from5:00p.m.to7:30p.m.atthePointeinthe Walter Pyramid. Thedinner event will featuretwo selectedresearch presentations with discussions.
The Presentations
ThepurposeoftheWomen’sResearchColloquiumistolearnaboutresearchdonebywomenand/or researchrelatedtowomen’sissuesandconcerns.Presentationsshouldbedevelopedforageneral audienceofCSULBfaculty,students,staff,andcommunityguestswhorepresentavarietyof disciplines.Presentationsshouldbenolongerthan20minutesandshouldemphasizeresultsrather than methodology.
TheSubmission Process
AllCSULBfacultyandstaffmembersareinvitedtosubmitaproposalofapresentationforreview. Eachsubmissionshouldconsistoftwoseparatefiles:theCoverSheetandthePresentationAbstract.
(1)TheCoverSheetshouldincludethefollowinginformationasitwouldappearintheprogram, shouldthepresentationbeselected: (a)Thepresentationtitle;(b)thepresenter’sname,title, and department; and(c)ashort biography(approximately150 words).
(2)ThePresentationAbstractshouldinclude:(a)thepresentationtitle;(b)asummaryofthe researchandhowitwillbepresented(approximately250words);(c)aparagraphexplaining howthepresentationrelatestoorsupportsthemissionofthePCSWinadditiontohowit addressesthepurposeoftheWomen’sResearchColloquium;and(d)anindicationofthe college(s)with which theresearch is most closelyaligned.In ordertofacilitateblind reviewing, no identifyinginformation about theproposershould appearin theabstract.
Eachfilemustbesubmittedasane-mailattachmenttoLindsay San Miguel().Pleaseindicatetheterms“PCSWCover”orPCSWAbstract”inthe subject lineofthe e-mail. Attachments must bein MS Word (.docor.docx)orPDF(.pdf).
Evaluation ofSubmissions
TwopresenterswillbechosenbythePCSWColloquiumCommittee.Abstractswillbeevaluatedon thebasis of:
(1)Thequalityofthepresentation beingproposed;
(2)Howthepresentation relates to orsupports themission ofthePCSWand howit addresses the purposeoftheWomen’sResearch Colloquium;
(3)Whetherthepresentation is developed with theColloquium audiencein mind.
About PCSW
ThePresident’sCommissionontheStatusofWomenrepresentsallCSULBwomenandwomen- identified students, staff,faculty, and administrators.Themission ofthePCSWis to:
•Serve as aliaison between thePresident’s Officeand the Universitycommunity;
•AdvisethePresident’sOfficeandthecampuscommunityonpoliciesandpracticesofconcern to women and affecting women’s opportunity,full participation, and advancement at CSULB;
•Initiate,advocate, implement, and support actions that address the concerns ofCSULBwomen;
•PromoteidentificationoftheneedsofcampuswomenandencouragetheUniversitytorespond tothoseneedsbyremovinginequitiesandbyprovidingasupportiveeducational,workingand social environment for women;
•Advocatefortheenhancedstatusofcampuswomenandcontinuallyprovideandsupport opportunities forthe equal and fairtreatment of women.
