Principal’s Summary:
First in our list of things to do before the end of the year is the state assessment or AIMS test which will take place April 7th through 11th. We are beginning a recognition program for students who perform well on the state annual assessment and want to recognize your student next year! Students who “meet” or pass any of the assessments will receive a school lanyard. For every test thereafter, they will receive a star-shaped pin to place on the lanyard. Students scoring “exceeds” on any test will receive two stars. We want our coyotes to reach for the stars! We plan to have an after-AIMS barbeque for all students who had perfect attendance during AIMS.
Speaking of tests, we are very excited that our eighth grade students did well on the ACT Explore Test. We are especially proud of Emily Ngu who was one of only 53 students in the entire state to score a perfect score on this challenging test!
The district Science Festival was held at Poston Butte High School on March 4, 2014. Several of our students received prizes for their entries and will go on to compete at the county and state levels. Congratulations to all our winners!
Kindergarten screening is taking place. We encourage all our parents to take advantage of free full-day kindergarten beginning this fall. This will really help our kindergarten students to be ready for first grade and grow academically and socially. Please invite your neighbors to take advantage of this great opportunity to participate in their neighborhood school.
We are really seeing the benefits of the new tablets and Chrome Books at Walker Butte. Student interest and participation is increased when students use this technology, as well as their skills with the technology of the future. Talk to your students about these resources. The FUSD Governing Board has approved “bring your own device” for K-8 students beginning July 2014. This policy does not apply to student cell phones. Watch for more information about this policy or contact the district IT Department with questions.
Thank you for all of your support and interest this school year. It means the world to us at WB to be able to work with your children.
