Context / Restless Development
Restless Development is an international development charity focused on putting young people at the forefront of change and development. It is the global leader in supporting young people to address the urgent health, education, and environmental issues which affect their lives, communities, and countries. Restless Development has eight country programme offices across Africa and Asia, and its International Programme team operates from London.
dance4life is an innovative, international programme that used urban music and dance to inspire and empower young people to make a stand against HIV and AIDS by acting4life. dance4lifetrains young people about HIV and AIDS and the realities of HIV in both aUK and a global context. The young peopleare then supported to act4life (spread awareness of HIV and dance4life in their schools and communities). Once young people act4life they becomea dance4lifeagent4change. The UK branch of dance4life is run by SPW.
TAGs (Taking Action Groups) are thegroups that young people form in their schools to act4life. These consist of 6 - 8 young people, 1 teacher and 1 Development Trainer. The Development Trainers role is to train the TAGs in the skills4life programme and then support them to act4life.
skills4life is the training programme that dance4life provides for agents4change through Development Trainers as peer educators. The training includes sessions on definitions of HIV and AIDS, HIV transmission routes and how to protect yourself, stigma and discrimination, HIV statistics - UK and globally, and how to make a stand against HIV and AIDS by raising awareness, fundraising and/or campaigning.
N.B.: Development Trainers will attend a 2-day residential training course to learn how to facilitate training to the young people.
Main Responsibilities
Time 40% / Training young people in skills4life
  • Attend 2-day training workshop on skills4life training (21 – 22 August 2010)
  • Organise a timetable in which to run skills4life training with the school you are linked with
  • Run one set of skills4life training per academic year minimum

Time 40% / Supporting TAGs to act4life
One-off responsibilities:
  • Attend the School Workshop Tour session 2010 to meet teachers and potential TAG members
  • Use your link with the school to form one or more TAGs
  • Support your TAG in acting4life on World AIDS Day (Dec 1st)
Continuous responsibilities
  • Support TAGs to:
-have regular meetings - attend at least one per half-term
-think up actions, set up their own action plans, and organising their actions
-dodance4life monthly actions and attending BIG actions
-track their actions and progress through agent4change levels of achievement
  • Provide support at TAG-organised actions (at least one per academic year)
  • Award dance4life certificates and rewards

Time 10% / Reports and feedbackto agents4change officer
  • Ensure TAGs report any actions they do to the agents4change officer including evidence e.g. photos/videos, funds raised etc.
  • Monthly report to agents4change officer to include:
-A feedback form for each skills4life session you run
-A feedback form your TAGs about skills4life
-updates on your TAGsplans for future actions
-any other feedback e.g. further support you would like, progression of a4cs through levels, certificates/incentives awarded etc.
  • Annual update and feedback (June) of new TAGs, leaving TAGs, overall feedback from the year, materials report etc.

Time 10% / Other (if possible)

Attend one a4c BIG action per academic year

Attend the BIG event on the 27th of November 2010
