Band 6 occupational Therapist – Polmuir Road

Scope and Range

The postholder will work within the Specialisms Rehabilitation Team specifically at Polmuir Road Community Rehabilitation Unit. This part-time post covers Polmuir Road CRU, involves close working with the Community Rehab Team and liaison regarding potential referrals from Fraser Ward and the Adult Mental Health Acute Admissions Wards.

Office base is at Rosebank Cottage, Royal Cornhill Hospital with supervision being provided by Band 7 OT from the Community Rehabilitation Team. The provision of occupational therapy will be carried out using both individual and small group models working with the MDT at Polmuir Road and liaising with CRT.

Postholder will be involved in the joint assessment process for referral to Polmuir Road. Provision of specific standardised assessments and treatments including MOHO assessments and outcome measures. Assessments will inform diagnosis and provide accurate information on client’s mental and physical state and current level of functioning. Provision of treatments to build on client’s strengths and abilities and to facilitate moving on from Polmuir Road in due course to own tenancy or other supported accommodation.

Provision of therapeutic group work which may include providing the following:- anxiety management, assertiveness, confidence building, creative therapies, healthy living, community living and vocational skills.

Provision of preventative interventions to avoid if possible re-admission to hospital.

Maintain up to date knowledge of mental health and other community resources and the range of supported accommodation providers.

Carry out home visits/visits to supported accommodation as appropriate.

Develop close team working with nursing/medical/psychology/social work and other AHP colleagues and other disciplines, services and agencies.

Provision of staff training and student education across disciplines and within multi-disciplinary team, including formal assessment of student performance.

Undertake training and personal development as identified through supervision and e-ksf.

Participate in supervision and support of staff as required.
