Pastor
Evangelical Fellowship Church
I. Description: As a spiritual overseer, the pastor is the shepherd and guardian of the local fellowship of believers. The ministry is accomplished by studying and teaching, praying and preaching, visiting and counseling on the basis of the Holy Scriptures. The pastor’s life should be of consistent spiritual moral character and lifestyle, characterized by a servant attitude. The pastor should exhibit an exemplary lifestyle and spiritual submission while complying with the biblical leadership qualifications of an overseer (Matt. 20:25-28; Acts 20:28-31; Heb. 13:7,17; 1 Thess. 5:12,13; 1 Peter 5:1-5; 1 Tim. 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).
II. Qualifications and Qualities
A. A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ
B. Ordained by a church or denomination that agrees with EFC Constitution
C. Minimum educational requirement-Master’s Degree
D. Competent in organization, administration, and interpersonal relationships
E. History of faithful ministry experience with a minimum of two years pastoral experience
F. Must be a dynamic public speaker with excellent communication skills
III. General Responsibilities
A. The Pastor has the responsibility to serve the congregation under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and to perform those ministries which help people to become Disciples of Christ
B. To serve the needs of the church for an average of 32.5 hours per week or a total of 130 hours per month
C. The Pastor will be required to provide a report on a monthly basis outlining his activities and keep the Board informed of his short and long- term initiatives and goals
D. The Pastor is an ex-officio (voting and participating) member of the board, as well as all committees
IV. Specific Responsibilities and Expectations
Including but not limited to:
A. To teach and preach, presenting a good mix of salvation and deeper walk messages
B. To oversee the instruction of baptism candidates and new adherents
C. To preside over the ordinances, i.e. communion, baptism
D. To oversee the printing of the Sunday bulletin and censor the bulletin
E. To oversee the Sunday worship service & conduct regular guided Bible study and prayer meetings to equip members of the church for effective ministry
F. Is responsible for relations with the Evangelical Mennonite Conference (EMC)
G. To visit adherents regularly
H. To perform weekly ministry at Rainycrest home for the aged
I. To oversee VBS and other child/youth ministries
J. To be in touch with other like-minded congregations & ministerial
K. To develop relationships in the community
L. To develop public connections with the community
M. To be readily available to perform counseling and to meet the spiritual and physical needs of church members and those within the community
N. Oversees the media message of the E.F.C. (Facebook, website maintenance, advertising, sign)
O. Conduct regular evangelistic outreach and mission projects in accordance to the spiritual goals of the church
P. Provide ongoing support to the building committee and function as liaison to the Board from the building committee for a current building project (We are an established church in the midst of relocating.)
Q. Must be self-motivated and well organized, with ability to work independently
V. Review: Performance evaluation will be provided on an annual basis.
VI. Salary: $42,157.62/year (5% paid by employee, 5% matched by employer)
VII. Vacation: The Pastor is eligible for 3 weeks of vacation after 1 year of employment or 6% of gross salary.
