OPEN CALL for Student-Performers

Overview

Greendale Got Talent! is a showcase of Greendale Secondary School’s student talent in a variety of art forms. These include and are not limited to singing, playing an instrument, beat-boxing, DJ-ing, dancing, performing as an ensemble, rock/pop band or dance group, performing a skit, magic trick or stand-up comedy and so on.

Format

There are 2 categories to choose from:

Solo / Group (more than 2 performers)
Individual performances by Greendale Secondary School student / Group performances by (at least 2) Greendale Secondary School students

Important note:

1)  All performers, regardless of the Category, must be current Secondary 1 to 3 students in the school.

2)  Solo performers or Groups with member/s from non-performing arts CCA groups (i.e.: Chorale/Hip Hop/Dance/Orchestra/Angklung/Theatricks), will be given bonus points.

Participation & Selection Rounds

There will be two rounds of selection:

Round 1: Shortlisting of Entries

Entries will be shortlisted by a selection panel based on videos of the performances uploaded onto YouTube. Students whose entries are shortlisted will be notified by 1st week of July 2015.

Round 2: Live Auditions cum Rehearsals

Shortlisted entries will be invited to a live audition held in the 2nd week of July 2015 where they will perform their showcase items for the audition panel. Students who are successful in the live audition will be notified by Mid July 2015. These students will also be informed of the schedule of rehearsal to be held before the school’s National Day Celebration.

Showcase

Students who are successful in the live audition will perform at the school’s National Day Celebration concert on 6 August 2015.

The audience will have an opportunity to vote for their favourite act and a panel of judges will also make a selection to determine their choice performers for the Final Showdown.

Final Showdown

The Final Showdown features the audience and judges’ choice performances from both categories. The Final Showdown for Greendale Got Talent! will be held on 3 September 2015 during the Teachers’ Day Celebration concert.

Criteria for Selection

The selection of entries for the Greendale Got Talent! showcase will be based on the following criteria:

1. Performance

Performers display skillful execution of relevant technique in their chosen art form. They are able to make sound decision in developing a performance item that is aligned to the objectives of SYF and fully demonstrates their strengths and talents. For group items, they display good teamwork and unity of purpose.

2. Presentation

Performers use appropriate costumes and props (where necessary) to enhance their performance. They display a positive attitude and a likable disposition, and message the right values through their performances

3. X-Factor

Performers are able to express their originality, creativity and personality through the performance. Through their energy, enthusiasm and confidence, they engage and excite the audience.

Recognition

All performers selected for Greendale Got Talent! showcase will receive an award.

Performers selected for the Final Showdown will receive additional recognition.

Performers for the Final Showdown will be selected for Audience Choice as well as Judge’s Choice based on audience vote and judges’ vote during the Final Showdown.

Instructions for Submission

1.  Form a group or go solo.

2.  Record the full performance in digital video format with audio. The video should be of a quality that adequately captures the integrity of the performance.

(Post-production on the video is allowed provided it does not unfairly enhance the quality of the performance, i.e.: voice enhancement, dubbing, video effects, etc.)

3.  Complete the Registration Form.

4.  Upload an unlisted video of your (group’s) performance onto YouTube.

5.  Email completed Registration Form to Mrs. Serene Ang at .

6.  The deadline submission of entries is Sunday, 27 July 2014 at 6pm.

7.  We are unable to accept incomplete registrations and advise performers to check that all the required fields have been filled prior to submission.

Instruction for Uploading Performance Video on YouTube

1.  Go to YouTube [http://www.youtube.com].

2.  Create an account. If you already have one, proceed to step 8.

Please note the following:

  1. In creating a YouTube account, you are creating a Gmail account. This will appear as [YouTube username]@gmail.com
  2. In creating a YouTube account, you are also creating a Google+ account. Google+ is Google social network, similar to Facebook. You will be able to adjust your setting in the Google+ tab at the top of your browser when you log in to YouTube or Gmail. If you do not want a Google+ account, you can delete it while still keeping you YouTube account.
  3. What you do on YouTube is separate from what you do on Google’s various sister sites. For example, if you do something on YouTube, it will not be visible on Google+.

3.  Click on the “Sign in” button in the upper-right corner of the homepage.

4.  Click on the “Create an account” button in the upper-right corner of the page.

5.  Fill out the requisite information. Fill out your email address, user name, date of birth, gender and click “I Accept”.

6.  Supply a phone number for verification that you are not a machine, it prompted. To cut down on fake accounts or accounts managed by bots, Google sometimes will make you provide verification.

7.  Type in verification code, if necessary.

8.  Log in to your account.

9.  Click the “Upload” button on the top of the homepage. It is situated to the right of the search bar, next to “Browse”.

10.  Choose a video file. Click “Browse” to look through files on your computer.

YouTube accepts the following video formats:

·  .AVI (Audio Video Interleaved)

·  .MPEG or .MPG (Motion Picture Experts Group)

·  .FLV (Adobe Flash)

11.  Click the “Upload Video” button.

12.  Enter the details. Required information includes the title of the video, the description of the video, what category the video should be in and the tags.

13.  Optionally, you can fill in the Broadcast Options, the Date and Map Options and the Sharing Options.

  1. Adding a description to your video will allow for others to learn more information about it, which will display at the bottom of the video.
  2. Tags allow others YouTube users to see your video by linking common words associated with your video. Other videos with similar tags will often be seen together in the “Recommended Videos” sidebar.
  3. Annotations allow you to add notes or pauses to the video that you may have forgotten to put in. These can allow the viewer to see additional information about your channel, for example, without having to read the description.

14.  Choose “Privacy” settings. Public videos can be searched for and viewed by anyone. Unlisted videos are only accessible to people who know the video link. Private videos are limited to 50 YouTube users. You must know their YouTube username or email address to share the video.

a.  For the purpose of this submission, solo performers / groups are advised to set the video’s privacy setting to “Unlisted”.

15.  In “Advanced” Setting, you can enable or disable comments and video replies.

a.  For the purpose of this submission, solo performers / groups are advised to disable comments and video replies.

16.  Click “Save”. Your title, description, etc. will be saved when your video has completed uploading. When the bar fills, you have posted a video on YouTube.

17.  Copy the URL link to the video and paste it in the relevant field of the Registration Form.
