SPECIAL EVENTS
FACILITY GUIDELINES – GLENMONT ESTATE
Glenmont was the home of Thomas Alva Edison and his second wife, Mina Miller, from 1886 until his death in 1931. The 29 room brick and timber mansion built in 1880, contains the original furnishings and family items used by Thomas and Mina Edison. Since 1959 the National Park Service has owned and maintained Glenmont, now part of ThomasEdisonNationalHistoricalPark. The estate is open for public tours.
The following conditions will assure adequate preservation of this historic house:
Food and drink are only permitted in designated areas on the grounds of the Glenmont Estate. This includes storage, preparation and serving. There are no kitchen facilities available. Open flame cooking is not permitted. There is no potable water at Glenmont. Live plants, flowers and candles are not permitted inside the home.
Caterer will provide all personnel, tables, chairs, tableware, linens, coat racks and tents as needed.
The Conservatory is a glass-enclosed porch at the southeast corner of the house. It measures approximately 20 feet by 35 feet. There is one duplex receptacle outlet (20amps) available. Additional lighting will be required for events after dark on the estate grounds. Arrangements must be made in advance if electricity is needed.
There is one restroom on the second floor of the house for events in the Conservatory. Caterer will provide portable toilets for larger events and those held on the estate grounds.
Historic furnishings may not be touched or moved. Nothing will be attached to or placed on any woodwork or other historic fabric.
Smoking is not permitted at the Site. A designated smoking area is available for events on the grounds of the estate.
Glenmont is not accessible to those using wheelchairs or with mobility impairments.
There is limited parking at the Glenmont Estate. Valet parking should be considered for larger events.
All areas must be left in the same condition as prior to the event. Any items brought onto the Site must be removed. Trash and used tableware may not be left over night.
All deliveries and pickups must be scheduled in advance with the National Park Service. Deliveries can be made no earlier than one business day prior to the event. Pickup must be scheduled no later than one business day after the event. Glenmont is located within Llewellyn Park, a private residential community with limited access.
