A student in the community has expressed a strong interest in pursuing an education and career in the area of building maintenance. This position has been designed to assist the student in gaining work experience and employability skills in this field. The student will work in the maintenance department, learning building maintenance (indoor and outdoor), including minor repairs, surface preparation, painting, landscaping, lawncare, and carpentry tasks.

My summer job placement was in the Maintenance Department for the Diana Indian Band. I found that coming to work everyday on time and completing my work made me feel better about myself and it proved to me that I could get a job in the future. I especially enjoyed carpentry and would like to take more courses in this field. I learned new skills such as preparing surfaces for painting and different painting techniques.
Comment/Story #2: SUMMER CAMP ASSISTANTMy summer job placement was the Jackson Summer Camp in the community of Westlake, BC. I found my work experience rewarding as I worked with children and learned how to organize summer activities that were fun and exciting. My work experience training gave me insight into a specific career path. I want to explore early childhood education in order to work in a daycare centre for children.
