Invasive Species of Illinois

Un-Wanted Poster Assignment

Objective:

On one piece of 8½ X 11 computer paper make an un-wanted poster for an invasive species that looks like the real thing. All information must fit on one page (front only) and must be neat and legible. Please include pictures of your species!

Choose one that interests you to do some research to complete an “unwanted poster” for your invasive species. When you have selected your invasive species of choice, please inform your teacher as this is on a first come first serve. You may use the template on the next page to complete your poster or you may create a design for your poster. I would encourage you to be creative!!!!

Your Un-Wanted Poster should include the following:

·  Name of the Invasive Species (both common and scientific name)

·  Damage caused by the invasive species (this is the crime)

·  Pictures & Description

-  Identifying Characteristics: Key features to look for when identifying the “criminal”

·  Aliases (other names it is known as)

·  Where did it come from? (Where does it live normally?)

·  Where in the world is it a problem?

·  Crimes committed – List and describe at least 3 ”crimes” or negative impacts caused by the non-native species

·  Date of introduction

·  Cause of introduction

·  Reward: for elimination of your “exotic” species.

-  What are the benefits for removal: economic, social, health, etc.

-  You can discuss any programs that have been put into place to remove this species.

·  Citation – Titles of websites and url address used
