MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Maintenance Department

RESPONSIBILITIES

To act as a mechanic for the Building Maintenance department of California Community News, with responsibility for performing all related maintenance functions of the building maintenance department, under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor to achieve optimum effectiveness of all production machinery and building equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic utilizes his/her skills to provide proactive immediate maintenance to high-speed production line equipment, to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment and production of quality products which meet customer and division requirements.

Duties:

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems on Goss Urbanite printing presses and GMA SLS 2000 or SLS 3000 inserters.
  • Perform mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on all equipment in a quality and timely manner to ensure the safe and efficient operation of equipment
  • Maintain, repair and rebuild all equipment in the facility, Pressroom, Packaging and Plateroom areas
  • Maintain effective and open communication with supervisors and co-workers on any matters impacting the production and/or distribution of the product and to report to the supervisor any matters requiring his/her attention
  • Ensure that all activities and operations are performed in compliance with all state, local and federal regulations
  • Inform the Maintenance Supervisor with accurate information regarding the performance of all equipment and any error or accident that will either impact the product or result in a loss
  • Demonstrate by example manufactures and/or company approved repairs, service methods and or techniques
  • Maintain an on-going dialog with the Maintenance Supervisor, ensuring that work quality, performance, and materials meet required production schedules and expectations
  • Maintain daily maintenance/activity log
  • Advise responsible person when parts and equipment need ordering
  • Attend department safety and co-ordination meetings as required
  • Comply with all aspects of the California Community News Employee Handbook, Tech, Operating procedures, policies and directives
  • Maintain proper safety practices at all times

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to use basic hand tools and power tools
  • Ability to read and understand drawings and prints used to rebuild, adjust and repair equipment
  • Must be able to use shop equipment such as Power Press, Band Saw, Bench Grinders, etc.
  • Must have basic plumbing skills, and be able to work with copper, PVC and steel
  • Must have basic electrical and PLC skills
  • Knowledge and experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to communicate in English

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand, kneel and crouch for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift in excess of 70 pounds
  • Must be able to work in high places and in small cramped places
  • Must be able to maintain the following attributes while under pressure from deadlines; technical capability, professionalism, self-motivation, self-discipline, focus and attention to detail
  • Must be able to maintain a safety-minded approach to all activities
  • Must be able to work weekends and all shifts

Starting Pay:$14.56(commensurate to experience)
